I’m so sorry. You must have been terrified. The little boy I grew up next to - I was in love with him when I was 5 and he was 3 - was working near there but a child..... I’m so glad they’re both okay. Dennis was, too. What hit me hardest were the blocks and blocks they showed of missing people pictures people were posting. I have almost none of that on my recordings.

You are most welcome. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time and finally felt the pants kick. Because I recorded everything on high quality tape from high quality source, I felt like I had to do SOMETHING with it.
Thank you. I recall watching a newscaster from the studio with the images of the burning towers behind him. He said something like “This just in - one of the towers has collapsed. One of the towers has collapsed.” Then he looks at his screen - both towers are still standing.
“Okay - well obviously they are both still there, so I’m not sure where this report came from.”
Then - about two minutes later on the screen behind him it shows one of the towers collapsing. I’m guessing that they had the video on a very long time delay so they could edit out falling bodies, etc. But one would think the newscaster would know that.

Actually, I think the real story was that he simply collapsed and died of a heart attack.
If you've watched the famous documentary from those two French film students who were embedded with the FDNY engine company in lower Manhattan all summer and just happened to be there with them on a call when the whole thing unfolded, you can see some brief clips of him and then a segment where the firefighters in the WTC haul him out with them after the first tower came down. He had no obvious signs of trauma and was inside the lobby of the other building the whole time.

I have that DVD, as well as a recording in S-VHS from when it was originally shown. No idea what the truth is. But if miserare is correct about the firemen’s humor, that would put the two stories into conflict. When I get a chance, I’ll try to do a comparison of the original playing of that video on TV versus the DVD to see if the story changed.
