Video: Tim Tebow leaves on-deck circle to greet autistic boy, then hits home run

Tim Tebow and Seth Bosch had never met until July 29 at Charlotte Sports Park, where Tebow, playing minor-league baseball for the St. Lucie Mets, was going against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Tebow and his team will be in Tampa and Clearwater for eight games beginning Thursday night.

But back to that brief encounter on July 29, one that turned into something special, all of it captured on video by Seth's mother, Ileanna.

Tebow, 29, was taking practice swings in the on-deck circle, waiting to hit in the top of the seventh inning. Seth, who was 9 at the time (he turned 10 on Aug. 6), was at the game with his parents and his younger sister.

And he wanted to meet Tebow.

Seth, who has high-functioning autism, also suffers from neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that produces tumors on the nerve tissue. He has a tumor behind his right eye. He has a hard time playing sports.

But he made his way down from the seats his parents had behind home plate, over to the backstop netting near the Mets' on-deck circle. There was a conference on the Stone Crabs pitching mound. A brief delay. That's when Seth made his move. He began waving to Tebow to come over.

And Tebow came over.

Tebow and Seth shook hands through the netting.

Then play was back in. Tebow went to the plate.

And hit a three-run homer.

You can't make this stuff up.

"When Seth came back to his seat, he was crying," Ileanna Bosch said. "And then Tim hit the homer. I started crying, too. How does that happen? I think God brought Seth and Tim together."

Meanwhile, you’ve got NFL and NBA players making headlines for all the wrong reasons...

I’d love to see Tebow get called up to the majors in September when the rosters expand.

After his first 100 or so ABs for Port St. Lucie, Tebow’s stats have been on a downward path, .248 now from .320+.

I haven’t watched MLB in years. To see Tebow play, I would :-)

It seems Tim has found his nitche. Big fish in a small pond. If he’s happy, more power to him.

I don't care how much...or how little...athletic talent he might have...he still sounds like an admirable guy.

The Mets aren't going to keep him in A ball just because he likes it there. If he doesn't show signs of improving then they'll cut him and replace him with someone who does.

It’s not just about winning. It’s about money. If he’s making money (putting butts in the seats, selling merch), I suspect that will figure into the decision.

I wasn’t talking about Tim. It’s ticket sales and advertising. He’s a PR Machine. It’s $$$ and he’s bringing it all in.

I’d be willing to bet that his positives far outweigh the negatives.

It’s something much bigger than money. I’ve been hearing that TeBow may already be less than a miracle away from Sainthood.

He’s good egg. And he’s good for sports, and the business of sports. God bless him. :-)

The joy he displays for any game Tebow plays is why I used to love watching professional team sports. More guys used to have that.

Well said. For all the bashing Tim Tebow's been subjected to, he hasn't changed a bit. Never heard or read a single story of how he "lost it" or "went off on someone" .... he just seems so incredibly well grounded. An admirable guy indeed.

The thing I like about Tim Tebow is what you see is what you get. He demonstrates what I have encouraged my grandson to do. Never compromise your Christian values regardless of what is happening around you, or what others may be doing.

I think that’s what the left despises so much about Tim Tebow. He is a classy and genuinely nice person. That just drives them nuts.
