No child that Diana had by Dodi would have any claim to the throne.

If there was a ‘stir’, it would simply have been because of his background.

“No child she had by another man while divorced from the Prince of Wales would possibly be in line for the throne under any circumstances.”

Yes, and there are all those other heirs too, Andrew and his daughters and I suppose Anne had some children too.

Just a very unfortunate turn of events. I’d chide Charles for being a selfish bum and not forswearing the throne for Camilla, but then there would have been no Prince William and no Duchess Kate and I love her. One does not know God’s plan.

Typically brilliant Steyn.

Diana was an attention addict and a disgrace to her children.

In that time I worked & socialized with a good number of ex-pat Brits in the Washington, DC area. Universals are never accurate but generally speaking I noted the following.
Men were somewhat indifferent to Charles but to a woman, the ladies loved Charles.
Younger ones thought of him as someone to be “much desired”. To older women he was a much loved nephew or some such.
When Diana came on the scene, younger women took on some of the indifference of men.
But it was another story with the older ladies. They pretty much viewed Diana as “that woman”, someone to never be good enough for “their” family.
No matter whoever the real Charles was or even became, the public view of him & Diana deep-sixed his public image.

I’ll always love Princess Diana.

She was too good for the “royal” family.

Princess Diana took a vow. Did you ever take a vow? I have a few times, from the Boy Scouts to military enlistment and especially my marriage of forty three years. Princess Diana was the daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer. As the daughter of an Earl she would have had no illusions of the nature of the Royal duties and obligations with the expected hardships. I am reminded of the sacred motto of West Point: “Duty, Honor, Country” and it must be the same for any conscionable individual that makes a sacred oath. Princess Diana was a spoiled child that shirked her obligation to her nation. She was not good enough for the royal family.
