"We must not forget this tragedy as we did the one in 1929. Houston has been visited by four serious floods in the last 40 years, each worse than the preceding one. The Chronicle has pointed out repeatedly since 1929 that the improved drainage in the western part of the county, the development of widespread Houston residential sections, with storm sewers turning floods of water into the bayou after every rain, has steadlily increased the hazard. Added to this now, is widespread WPA drainage work, which turns water from broad areas more rapidly into the bayous and speeds it through cleaned and straightened channels to the heart of Houston -- where it strikes a veritable bottleneck"
What is historic is society that is increasingly dumb down.
You mean!.....You mean!.....
This has happened before?
I have the vapors!
I must go to my fainting couch!
Galveston hurricane of 1900 Photos .
Most of those killed drowned in the storm surge.
If you have never read “Isaac’s Storm” you’re missing out. I recommend it.
But the biggest impact of the flood was less on individual communities that were inundated than on America itself. Far more than any other natural disaster, the 1927 Mississippi River flood altered the course of American history. It did this in four chief ways: it revised environmental management, propelled a dark horse to the presidency, altered the political landscape for African Americans, and expanded the role of government in crises.
No I haven’t
I have to see if I can find it.

My brother lived in Houston until last year. He told me in the 1935 flood one section of Houston was under 58 ft. of water!
Wow, that’s a lot!
It rained 40 inches at my house in 3.5 days.
Firemen just up and abandoned a fire truck near me. It got flooded.
I can't eeeven imagine what you are going through and am soooo impressed with how you guys rolled up your shirt sleeves and got working right away. The Cajun Navy, the Waco Navy and all the other Americans who came over to pitch in.
You people made me so proud of this country's American spirit.
How's the Houston Food bank sound? Just tell me where and I'll do it.
You and yours are in my prayers.
