Well I am excited...seeing it Friday night...Mitch Rapp on screen...Vince Flynn was my favorite author...Rush says he liked it...
Any reviews...Freeper ones, not pinhead liberals...I read those ans they don't like the genre, that's for sure.
I thought it was pretty good.
I heard it was going to be TERRIBLE.
I saw it and it was pretty good, esp the nuke blast at sea.
No worse than James Bond or Jason Bourne movies.
The only really implausible part was learning fluent Arabic in 19 months, YEAH RIGHT..!
You should see it.
Not brain food but not stupid.
Do not see IT if you have half a brain.
I made the mistake of reading around a dozen of those books back to back. I burned myself out on the character something fierce. It wasn’t Vince Flynn’s fault, it was mine.
I’m looking forward to seeing it. Vince Flynn was great and too bad he died so young . . . yet, the novels continue with Kyle Mills.

Thanks...I read all the books and Kyle mill’s stuff...
I hate clowns so no chance there...especially one that is an illegal alien to earth.
Just so happens this is my least favorite Flynn book. Rapp took on cartoonish proportions and at times I had to set the book down to keep from laughing at how over the top this guy was.
I very much liked all the other books, but American Assassin wasn’t that great. My opinion.
However, I understand why movie makers would start the Rapp story there if they intend to have sequels, because it tells the story of Rapp’s origins.
Sorry, I blathered on but haven’t seen the movie, yet. I look forward to it.
I read all the Mitch Rapp books. I didn’t know that was what was up this.
How much CGI?
What is your definition of an alpha?
I’ve read all of Vince Flynn’s books, and saw this movie last weekend. Seeing it made me want to read American Assassin again. I’ve loved all of his books. Michael Keaton played the Stan Hurley character extremely well, much better than I anticipated. For those not in the know, this book and movie introduce Mitch Rapp to the CIA and Irene Kennedy.
I very much look forward to sequels. And for the poster calling the portrayal of Rapp as a metrosexual, well, let’s just say he knows not of which he wrote.
Unlike the producers of The Sum of All Fears, the producers of American Assassin did not change the story line to shy away from Islam and Iran.
IMHO.
CGI metro sexual, not my Mitch.
Read “American Assassin” for the second time prior to seeing the movie. Suggest you do yourself a favor and skip reading the book prior to seeing the movie. As a Mitch Rapp fan I had a hard time accepting the casting for Dr. Kennedy and Mitch. They do not match the books in looks or attitude. Also, I think it was a mistake to change the story line. That said, if you view this as an action movie, it’s better than a lot of garbage Hollywood puts out. I rate it as a B- for the first outing and think it has potential for further development.
I saw it. Had no expectations but Rush was sort of promoting it last week. That got me a little excited. Would have been better if I had not. The movie is good but it’s not Bourne identity by any stretch. As another poster said, it’s a little over the top and some characters are over dramatic. And the actor who plays Mitch Rapp is a pimply teenager who needs a haircut. I haven’t read a Flynn novel in many many years so maybe I don’t remember the character well, but I would have thought they would find someone who had a more mature and athletic body type. It was just too unbelievable.
Also, they depicted the “sixth fleet”, which was really a carrier battle group as about 25 ships and a carrier all steaming within 5 miles of each other, sitting ducks for an attack. We never put all our assets in such a small basket when I served, but hey, it’s Hollywood
It means ya gotta get new glasses.
I saw it a few days ago. As an action movie it was quite good. I have to go along with the others here who had a problem with the kid who played Rapp. Not how I pictured him at all. He looked like a millennial pajama boy to me. Also the pc casting of Irene was annoying. Keaton as Stan Hurley was excellent. I would definitely see the movie. It is fast paced and entertaining. The stuff that annoyed me is stuff that is based on reading all of the books.
The book series is one of my favorites. I am reading Enemy of the State right now and am enjoying it a lot. Kyle Mills has done a great job carrying on after Flynn’s death.

...
I suspect they wanted millennials to see it so marketed to them, too, hence the Pajamaboy...
Well, I just saw the movie.
4 thumbs up.
Irene Kennedy was awesome; the actress acted the part perfectly, all work, no attitude and the little back and forth with Stan Hurley was just like the book.
Keaton as Hurley was perfect; just like I imagined it.
Mitch Rapp - this is where I differ with some critique...remember this is the first book (though Flynn wrote it later as the origin of Rapp as a pseudo prequel)...I didn’t see the actor as a pajama boy. Since the character was 25 yrs old or so here, if the movie does well, we’ll see more movies and Keaton will age, Kennedy will age, and Rapp will age and grow into their roles.
I loved it.
That’s a Rapp.
