I was given cetuximab, also known as Erbitux.
Cool. Something to read up on. I find it all fascinating (deveopment, trials to standard protocol). I had a monoclonal antibody added to a standard cytokine based chemo (CHOP-R) that increased PFS and remission rates by 12-15%. Absolutely fascinating the history and mechanism of these new drugs. I was damn glad to have that conspiracy big pharma scam. When I figured out that I had late stage IV cancer, I was litterly in the only weeks left stage (my fault for not getting help) Checked into cardio ward. (Odd they thought I would die from heart attack from cancer side effects first) Funny how 2 rounds of chemo made me feel better than I had in a while. @ 37 I never guessed it was cancer. Stress maybe mono, .... but I’m still here even with the big pharma scam to kill me and steal my money. (People are either crazy, dumb or delusional). I got to see my kids grow up to adults so thanks big pharma. After 8 rounds if did get old and I did get sick from it but the cancer died from it :)!
I’m glad you fought with science, common sense, latest and best treament choices available. I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you it was all a scam. If you had just used Kelp, flax seed, polo nuts, Amazon rainwater, arctic summer daisies, vitamins B,D,E and C all with a youngest based enema you would not only defeated the cancer scam but you would have re grown your hair and kept big pharma from taking advantage of you protecting the big SECRET ;)
I hope in your case you truly were cured. I’ve known far too many who were declared cured based on a five year remission, only to relapse some time later.
My first remission was a solid six years, but I never even toyed with the idea of thinking of myself as “cured”.
The enabling factor for most cancers is a flaw in the immune system which prevents it from recognizing the cancer as a target. Even if a chemo or radiation therapy kills every last cancer cell, the patient isn’t really cured because the “hole” in the immune system is still there waiting to be exploited if another cell mutates in a particular and begins dividing.
CAR-T (look it up) is exciting because it isn’t just another way to poison cancer cells without necessarily killing the patient, but rather it reprograms a part of the immune system to recognize and attack the cancer.
I may someday have to rely on CAR-T or some other immune modulation therapy if my current treatment stops working.
I’ve been fighting my own cancer since 2002, and have lost most of my immediate family to various cancers. I know far more about cancer and the cancer industry than I wish I did.
Being "cured" versus being cancer-free is always a looming thought for cancer survivors. "Cured" gives the impression that the disease won't return, but is that realistic?
My cancer was caused by a virus. The virus likely had been picked up dozens of years ago, and only manifested itself into a cancer 4 years ago. The immune system for many can eradicate this virus, and they're no worse for the wear. To the best of my knowledge, I may still have this virus present. If my immune system hasn't changed or become stronger as a result of my experience, it seems quite possible that under the right circumstances, it could manifest itself back into cancer again some day. If it does, I'll know what to expect, and I'll treat it accordingly.
Until that happens though, I'll live without fear. My oncologist tells me that recurrence for my cancer has the highest probability to return in the first 12 to 24 months. I'm beyond that, and that's good enough for me to call myself "cured."
You sound like you have experience and knowledge, and I apologize for characterizing you as ignorant. You've made some valid points. I wish you well in your continued fight.

How do they define “cure”?
What is their criteria?
