The match between Bangkok Sports Club and Satri Angthong had gone to a shootout after normal time ended 2-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The cup game was in the sudden death stage and tied at 19-19 when the last man - the goalkeeper - stepped up to take a spot kick for Bangkok Sports.

He hit the crossbar which sent the opposition goalkeeper running away and jumping in celebration, while the penalty taker held his head in despair.

But the ball flew into the air and when it landed the backspin caused it to slowly bounce back into an empty goal as keeper frantically ran back to try to save it.

Emotions quickly changed and it was the goalkeeper who threw the ball down in anger while the scorer celebrated his freak goal

There are several videos of this situation happening over the past several years. Why the players don’t keep an eye on the ball is beyond me.

At least today, it wasn’t me screwing up.

There’s still time I suppose.

Good thing that, at least judging from the video, there were no fans present to witness the debacle.

this looks like those charity football games in England where celebrites like woody harrelson and Kelsey grammer come on to take penalties at the end if the score is 14-14

The kicker was the opposing goalie, too. That’s gonna leave a mark.

Not in the least. He could have secured the win, but chose to celebrate, which turned out to be a big mistake. Live & learn. It ain't over until it's over. 8>)

I consider it poetic justice when premature celebration results in heartbreak. I was at a high school football game once where the visiting team that was a field goal ahead intercepted the ball with about a minute or two left in the game. The kid who intercepted had an open field in front of him - easy touchdown which would have clinched the win. But when he was 20 yards from the end zone, he stopped running and started prancing like a fool, thinking he'd just waltz on in the rest of the way.

Just before he crossed the endzone, he was hit hard from behind and the ball popped loose. The home team recovered the fumble and took it all the way to midfield. Then they drove for the winning touchdown with seconds left on the clock.

I think the showboating kid had to find his own way home that night.

true but how many 19-19 shootouta do they have in that sport. He had just taken almost 20 elimination shots in a row, I can forgive a little relief
