White House attacks legacies of both Bush presidents after reports that they refused to vote [Trump]

The White House on Saturday disparaged the legacies of the only two living Republican presidents to precede Donald Trump, after reports that both men castigated Trump in interviews last year and refused to vote for him.

Former president George H.W. Bush mocked then-candidate Trump as a “blowhard” and voted for a Democratic president, while the younger Bush worried aloud that Trump would destroy the idea of a Republican president in all but name, according to “The Last Republicans,” which is scheduled to go on sale later this month.

The White House responded after quotes from the book were published on Saturday, entering an extraordinary war of words involving three presidents from the same party.

“If one Presidential candidate can disassemble a political party, it speaks volumes about how strong a legacy its past two presidents really had,” the White House wrote to CNN. It called the younger Bush's decision to wage war on Iraq “one of the greatest foreign policy mistakes in American history.”

The Bush folks destroyed their own standing with me.

Then Trump came along.

Then the Bush folks destroyed their standing with me even more.

G. H. W. Bush voted for Hillary Clinton.

Facing a Trump vs Hillary presidency, G. W. Bush couldn’t make up his mind.

What more needs to be said?

I don’t want to hear from the Bush family on political matters, and I will never vote for another member of that family.

I loved that article.

I have lost all respect for W...except when it comes to mountain biking with wounded warriors.

Sounds like a badge of honor for President Trump, didn't both President Bushs support the world order that is destroying America's middle class.

I was stunned that they admitted that they voted for the Beast.

I think they were p!ssed because Jebbie couldn't get traction.

Good riddance to them and any pathetic legacy they might have had.

They may as well keep on voting for Democrats because the new Republican party doesn't want any more of their cronyism.

The Bushes gave us Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, but we need much more during their 12 years in the office.

If you can even contemplate the numbers of men and women who died to secure the right to vote.

...and you admit as an ex-president for not casting that vote. ...and you father voted for a communist in defiance of all American heroes.

F Off! Bush’s

Agree bro. I got an uneasy feeling when I heard the elder say we were going to have a kinder, gentler nation. I thought it was a slap at Ronald Reagan. I didn’t like it much, and never forgot it.

We should have nominated Dole in 1988 instead of GHWB.

President Trump threatens to undo the legacy of both Bush Presidents who sought to turn the USA into North Mexico.

When you realize his dad (GHW) voted for Hillary, and he (GW) refused to defend members of the military from a Hillary term as president, it kind of makes the act of biking with wounded warriors a hollow act.

These guys are long on feigned support, and very short when it comes to actual tangible protection.

Kudos to the wounded warriors politicians love to exploit.

As for the exploiters, find a place with plenty of fire for all of eternity, and go there.

The Bushes just aren't very bright...nor do they care about the middle class and heartland of America.

They are Yalies after all...and grads of Phillips Exeter.

But not because they earned it.

Daddy (Prescott) arranged it and paid for it.

What the eff do they know about men and women who go to work all day and still struggle to keep their families above water.

BTW, Jebbie couldn't even hack it at Phillips Exeter and was rejected by Yale even after Daddy and Old Grand Dad got him an invite.

He's so thick he had to go to public university.

He's the happy kid in the family. Not too smart, but not everything is about smarts. Right Jebbie?

It was named ‘compassionate conservatism,’ or what can my country do for me? It was liberalism lite.

In fairness, only GHW voted for her. It still baffles me that GW could take a pass on voting for the top slot, and didn’t seem to realize how bad Hillary would have been for the nation and particularly the military.

These two men were/are clueless.

I think the elder Bush is pretty much out of it, but GW has no such excuse.

He’s just willfully ignorant on political matters. He has been for decades.
