First Lady Melania Trump visited a Tokyo elementary on Monday afternoon, where she learned about Japanese calligraphy, and learned to write the word 'peace'.
Mrs Trump visited Kyobashi Tsukiji Elementary School with Japan's First Lady, Akie Abe, the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
About 300 children welcomed them with a school song before Mrs Trump posed for photos, shook hands and slapped high fives with kids.
In a calligraphy class, Mrs Trump wrote the first kanji character for the Japanese word for 'peace', as Akie Abe wrote the second letter.
Mrs Trump is accompanying her husband, President Donald Trump, on her first Asian tour, which kicked off in Japan.
On Sunday, the US and Japanese first ladies learned about the history of pearls at the historic jewelry shop, as part of her cultural program during the trip.
At Mikimoto's flagship pearl shop, they went upstairs to a 'hidden floor' of the building, reserved for VIPs, to talk over tea and coffee. No details of their discussions were released.
Mikimoto brought in two 'ama' divers who traditionally harvest pearls, clad in typical white costumes with big goggles and wooden buckets, to explain pearl farming to the US First Lady.
'Wonderful visit w/ Mrs. Abe today! Enjoyed conversation over tea & the cultural presentation on the history of pearls,' Melania tweeted after the meeting.
The first ladies then had a private dinner with their husbands at a Japanese steak house.

The kids catch my attention. Walk into the same classroom in America and see what it looks like.
Notice the uniforms on the children. Their public schools are a heck of a lot more structured and education oriented than those in the US
Ping to First Lady Melania's List.
Just Heartwarming :)
Uniforms work and they’re a real money saver.
Awesome....beautiful First Lady.......and to use hellary’s words...well never mind....
Oh absolutely. Keep in mind, though, that Japan is ethnically much less diverse than us (to put it mildly!). However, American private and parochial schools are more like this.
Yep, in lieberal schools, the kids would have only one finger up.
I don't know if it is too late, but WE must take back control.
Look at your school boards ..... they are loaded with long term socialists that continue the socialist structure.
It's all well and good to talk about term limits for politicians, but the foolish and lazy Americans that don't see the bud that can be so easily nipped ("THEY" have your children for seven hours a day, five days a week for at least thirteen years) need to wake up and be educated to this reality.
THE SNOWFLAKES CAME FROM PUBLIC SCHOOLS !
ANTIFA CAME OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS !
SOCIALIST PROFESSORS CAME OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS !
Two impressions. One is that Melania and Mrs. Abe seem to genuinely like each other. The other is that, as usual, Melania’s character shines when she’s surrounded by children.
She did a good job with the calligraphy. I could not see the Wookie applying herself this way. I took a Chinese brush painting class one semester in college. It took the entire semester for us to master the painting of a bamboo arrangement in ink and brush. Its an interesting and precise art, and very beautiful in its simplicity. I gained some insight into the Chinese mind and temperament through that weekly exercise. I realize she is in Japan, but the two cultures are similar.
Best First Lady ever. She is glowingly beautiful.
Kindness and Love shines from her.
I love to see photos of her.
The dress as absolutely perfect. So appropriate and stunning as usual. Who is designer?
Christian Dior
Home School, Home School, Private School and charter schools!!!!!
Get rid of the public schools.
Can you imagine Bill Clinton (as First Laddie) doing something like this?

In Ancient Art classes you could always tell the difference between the original Chinese compositions and the Japanese copies of the same subject by the vibrancy of line in the Chinese drawings. Their sculptures had that same subtle relationship.
