I had a 8th Grade science teacher who genlty put her hand on my shoulder and squeezed my trapezius with a Vulcan Death Grip and quietly said, “If you don’t straighten up you’re going to flunk this class.” My reaction was, I’m gunna show her. I studied like hell and got straight A’s in the class.

Thank you, Miss Reed for caring.

I agree. Federal government has no business in education.

I’ve never done drugs, but I’m guessing registering to vote, let alone getting up and getting to the polls are not among the top priorities of druggies.

That's why Democrat "inner city" areas all have block captains on every block. These are the people you go to when you have an issue with city government or need help filling out an application for "service". Then on election day, these block captains are in charge of getting everybody to the polls.

If you don't go to the poll on election day, then good luck getting help from your block captain the next time you need it.

The school needs to call babymama and tell her if the child cannot act right, she is going to have to find another place to babysit her child.

Babymomma will show up and raise he$$ and wag her finger and get violent. The school will acquiesce to her tirade and the cycle starts all over again.

That's how the game is played.

That would mean going back to the days before no-fault divorce, abortion, drug abuse, prayer in school, going to church on Sunday because the malls didn’t exist and stores closed. Smaller towns, slower cars, no tech.

Our diet has changed too with processed foods, soy, high fructose corn syrup. There may be aborted baby stuff in their vaccines. Life sure has changed. Kids have it rough. The suicide rate is climbing.

Generally speaking, black mothers and white mothers differ in expectations re their kids at school. Many black parents view their role as getting their kids to school where their job ends and the teacher takes over. That explains the emphasis on hair/shoes/clothes and the disinterest in homework completion and rationed tv watching. Black kids watch far more tv than other kids.

Babymomma will show up and raise he$$

What’s more, Babymomma’s baby likely has an I.E.P. (i.e. is officially handicapped in some way) and therefore can only be suspended/expelled under the most extraordinary of circumstances. (It also means Babymomma gets an SSI check).

For instance there is a ‘condition’ called O.D.D.—Oppositional Defiance Disorder—that basically means the kid doesn’t do what he’s told. The school is required to educate him in the ‘least restrictive environment’ possible. Which means the kid who continually throws temper tantrums, chairs, books, etc. is sitting next to your kid. It’s one reason why the public schools often suck so badly, and I’ve taught in them for over 30 years.

Exactly so. This comes from being told for decades that government will take care of everything for them as long as they vote correctly. It takes a village, after all.

Children behaving like animals leaves little time for actual instruction. Our schools are churning out uneducated children for many reasons, but one leading factor is that the parents are MIA.

In Junior High/Middle School, the School Superintendent/Football Coach/Principal at my school looked like a Drill Sargent. He never was, but we didn’t know that. He had a ring of keys that must have weighed 3 or 4 pounds. He once threw it at the wooden seat BESIDE a trouble-maker in the auditorium who wasn’t looking. Big noise - immediate order - no questions asked. I think he would have aimed for the kid next time, and the kid thought he would have, too. No more trouble.

Tulsa’s not your average inner city. I really am surprised about the kindergarten violence thing. I’d have to read all about it, but I’ll bet it’s confined to one or two schools. As I said, crime has jumped, and not just in areas where it used to be, but Tulsa, and most of Oklahoma, except for a small part of Oklahoma City, is still a pretty conservative place. We were considered the meth capitol of the country, which like a lot of places, mostly affected younger people, but the ones who survive, do age, and they have kids. Drugs have ruined the whole country. It’s pitiful.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

There are a few black guys who show up at a long running political breakfast I go to. A couple of them have been following school issues and have been involved with the schools in various volunteer capacities for years.

They are in agreement that in many cases, we need a better class of parent before we will get better outcomes from our schools.

It’s quite a conundrum.

Single parenthood is at the root of a large percentage of school discipline problems. This is not talked about much.

Yes. Over the past decades, I think three things have become “acceptable” and these have hurt children very much:

Easy divorce - leads to single parent problem
Less stigma for being an unmarried Mom — more single parent problem
Most women work — kids are farmed out to day-care and schools and parents never really bother to parent — the “no parent” problem

The same thing has happened in Harrisburg, Penn., and the media there is refusing to provide details. Trachers at Harrisburg public schools are fleeing the profession as a result of violence and injury at the hands of “students.”
