Senate Republican leadership is calling for Alabama GOP candidate Roy Moore to step down as the party's nominee if new allegations of his inappropriate sexual conduct against a 14-year old girl in 1979 are true.
Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) released brief statements on Thursday, shortly after The Washington Post published the allegations.
"If these allegations are true, he must step aside," McConnell said.
Gardner's statement echoed that from McConnell.
“The allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore are deeply troubling,” he said. “If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election.”

I rarely agree with McConnell but for me basic human decency is non-negotiable.
I’d be sad to see Moore go but he should do right by the party and the country if it came to it - do the honorable thing.
I’m sure he will draw the necessary conclusions before or after this story comes out.

For the record, I 1000 percent believe the charges involving Weinstein and CK, but that’s neither here nor there.
I guess my issue is that I don’t know what due process is here. Assuming that they didn’t make up the four statements from the women, Moore is never going to win a defamation case so he’s not suing. (Well, he might but it’s not going anywhere).
This isn’t going to court on the charges.
It’s basically a story and a denial.
How do we prove this one way or the other?

Many attorneys keep diaries...more or less...cuz they use them for reference for billing. This can be tracked.
Timing is everything. This timing makes the accusation suspect in a way that the Weinstein and Spacey accusations do not. It is far too politically convenient that the accuser came out right now as opposed to during the primary or right after Moore's primary victory.
This is crooked WaPo fake news until proven otherwise.

I would be capable of rendering no opinion at this point. No evidence, and timing is highly suspicious is it not? It seems likely Mitch had his press release prepared in advance and ready for immediate release once his demorat friends made public the unsubstantiated charges.
Any court-room admissible evidence and Moore should be out. How many times has he run for public office? Why not then were these claims discovered? Hmmm.

Kevin Spacey apologized “if” he did something that he couldn’t remember.
Moore has denied the accusation.
There aren’t two standards here.

If he is innocent as he says, then stepping down would be wrong and like proof he did it.
