Imagine all the money spent on studying, preventing, or reversing “global warming” had gone toward practical measures to help people (and even animals) deal with whatever weather turns up.
Coldest I was ever in was -18 F in Rochester, NY - plenty cold enough for me ... springs on my Plymouth Duster sounded like they were cracking when I got in ....

Washington (AFP) - President Donald Trump chimed in on the weather Thursday, citing the cold wave sweeping across much of the central and northeastern United States as justification for his controversial move to leave the global climate change pact.
“In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record,” Trump tweeted from his Mar a Lago resort in Florida, where he is on holiday vacation.
“Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!”

Growing up in that part of the world, there were weeks when we never saw a day above zero degrees (-5 for the high, -20s for the lows or even lower at times).
Snow clear to the window tops and even higher some years.
Ice fished when the lakes up there had almost 3’ of ice and were catching nice, healthy fish. I’m beginning to think “scientists” and “professors” are the new modern-day court jesters just like in the days of old.
Christmas 1983 was far colder than this.
Reagan’s second inaugural in 1985 was far colder than this.
Strange I don’t seem to recall any of these “sky is falling” headlines.
They postponed the New Years Eve fireworks extravaganza here in Omaha. Normally I disagree with these moves but I think it actually makes sense. According to the National Weather Service the high on Sunday is forecast for -4 and the low forecast is for -18. Brrr. I am hoping this winter doesn’t start to rival the winter of 1983. That was a nasty one.
Ask a weathergal/guy to explain why it’s so cold.
“Well, cold air is moving in from Canada....” That’s not an explanation. That’s a statement of what’s happening. “Well, you see, the winter chill off the Arctic has moved in to Canada, and is continuing on to the USA...” Still not an explanation.
Real explanation: there is none. Weather changes. Sometimes it’s warm, sometimes it’s cold. Calculating the future temperature is computationally impossible.
Maybe the other, primary, culprit in the deaths of these sharks was that they beached themselves and suffocated.

When I was a kid (back in the 40s and 50s) this particular weather pattern- extreme cold early in winter- enabled us to go down to the beach for Frostfish. Water temperatures still in the low 40s had Whiting chasing small baitfish up into the surf zone. The outwash from the beach, chilled by the air temperature would sometimes stun them for a moment or two and you could scoop them up from the wash.
Whiting are rare now, and "warming" is being blamed by lefty greenies. But they are also rare in colder waters where they would have migrated, so they are simply on a down cycle, like Striped Bass were for a decade or so some years back. The bass numbers have recovered; so will the Whiting.
Can't wait; they are tasty!
If they had only used the fricken lasers on their heads to warm things up they would have been ok.
Spent the last few days in Laughlin Nevada. Went swimming.
