U.S. Army Completely Turns over Springfield Armory’s collection to National Park Service
The Firearmsblog ^ | January 16, 2018

At a small and lightly covered ceremony at Springfield Armory National Historic Site in Massachusets location, the U.S. Army officially turned over control of the Colonel Benton Small Arms collection to the National Park Service of the United States. Previously the U.S. Army technically had control over the small arms in the museum (but not the physical historic site itself). This led to some tensions between the Park Service and the Department of Defense despite Congress itself authorizing the creation of the site 40 years ago. Fortunately for both the National Park Service and the U.S. Army, the DOD realized that the collection was much better left in with the professional historians who are passionate upon telling the story of Springfield Armory within the historical narrative of the United States. By finally transferring fully authority to the Park Service, this move ensures that this will continue.

Sigh.

Great place, been there a few times. The NPS is full of liberals. I hate to think of what will happen. If money gets short, and it will, they will preserve the “historic” homosexual sites before they close The Springfield Armory down.

Sigh.

Here is the deal with NPS, when you find a trail closed sign and dare to go in, youll find NPS employees smoking dope and swimming nekkid in their own private Idaho on YOUR dime

Should have given it to the NRA Museum.

The NPS runs the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site in South Dakota. It is a museum of a Minuteman II ICBM Launch Control Facility and the there are always posting leftist crap regarding the history of SAC, the Cold War, and everything involving the weapons and people that won the Cold War.

The fear is the next time....GOD FORBID....a Clinton or Obama type gets control they are liable to have the whole collection destroyed. Clinton had thousands of cases of M 14’s, BAR’s, etc new in cosmoline torched. The son of a bitch.

That is exactly it. They don’t view that historic material as historic, they view it as a negative reminder of western, white hegemony (as silly as that sounds) and unworthy of any treatment.

I don’t doubt the NPS will staff it directly with some people who see the site for the important historic area it is, but the upper echelons will definitely not see it that way.

I did not hear about the destruction of those weapons. Shameful and wasteful.

I can only imagine.

Reminds me of the Smithsonian treatment of the Enola Gay some years back, almost an apologia that they had to tone down because veterans were rightly furious over it.

LOL, my dad got in trouble via negative press back in 1995 when he gave a Memorial Day speech in my town and opined that if we had nuclear weapons sooner, we should have used more of them on the Japanese...

GRRRRRRRR. Those bloody RATS.

I found this interesting, though: "...For political reasons the CMP is not chartered to sell the thousands of 1911’s surplussed by the switch to the M9. Doesn’t have much practical impact, though, as the company in Anniston that had been bandsawing Garands and M14s, and crushing 1911’s, had been running 3 shifts for more than a year. There are, for all practical purposes, no 1911’s left. Destruction of Garands and M14’s is halted. Remaining rifles returned to storage..."

I had heard there were going to be a bunch of 1911s being sold by CMP...wonder where they were being squirreled away?

Since I live near DC I remember that well. I was so mad that I have yet to go over there and see that new section of the Air & Space Museum.
