The fate of the three inmates who successfully escaped from San Franciscos Alcatraz prison in 1962 is one of Americas greatest unsolved mysteries.
Their bodies were never found and the manhunt is still on 54 years later. But could a trio of common crooks really have survived paddling across the frigid, shark-infested waters surrounding The Rock on a makeshift raft cobbled together from raincoats?
A newly surfaced letter has reignited hope that the so-crazy-it-just-might-work scheme made legendary by the Clint Eastwood film Escape from Alcatraz wasnt just a success, but that one of the men may still be alive today.

Off the coast there is a sizable seal and sea lion population. Over the years with the prohibition of hunting seals the Great White Shark population has flourished as well.
Where there are seals and sea lions there are sharks. There are seals and sea lions inside San Francisco Bay.
Sea Otters are relatively safe as sharks spit them out wounded. Apparently, science is settled on the notion that sharks do not like the taste.

They made it by hooking their raft to a boat that brought people back and forth off the island. They had done the same thing as kids growing up.Getting off the island was the only part that anyone could not have done, and these guys just happened to have experience at that very thing.
