LODESTAR FIREARMS IS DEVELOPING A NEW SMART GUN CHAMBERED IN 9MM THAT IT HOPES WILL GAIN WIDESPREAD ACCEPTANCE AMONG AMERICANS.
A new smart gun company says its pistol will serve as the gateway to mass acceptance of smart guns in the United States.
According to The Trace, LodeStar Firearms based out of Philadelphia is in development on a smart gun chambered in 9mm and featuring radio frequency identification (RFID) tech which will ward off hackers. The MSRP on the gun will be about $750 and the goal is to have it available in 2019. The pistol is designed by Ernst Mauch, a former Heckler & Koch engineer who previously worked for Armatix but left after disagreeing with the way that company developed and marketed its iP1 pistol.
The already-controversial iP1 came under intense criticism last year when a hacker demonstrated that he was able to bypass the security system of the gunwhich involves firing when paired with an accompanying RFID wrist watchto make it fire a number of different ways, including using $15 worth of magnets.
That wont happen with LodeStars gun, says CEO Gareth Glaser.
The smart gun will have a non-magnetic lock and fire only when its within three or four inches of a chip, which would make it harder for the gun to be interfered with, Glaser claims.
In an interview with NBC Philadelphia, Glaser refers to the chip as a token which would be placed in a watch, or a ring, in a bracelet, or quite possibly implanted right here between your thumb and forefinger, Glaser said.

No way ANY cop would want to carry one.
Good luck with your eventual bankruptcy.

Step right up folks. LOL!
NO!
Your move ...
I don’t even want a smart phone!
Don’t bet money on it.
I like my dumb guns, they don’t think for themselves.
As I recall, the trace is nannie bloomers attempt at making his anti gun crap look not so anti gun. Too bad.
Unless they're a deep-pocket SJW-type, they can't hope to ever have anything like this gain acceptance by either law enforcement or the general public.
uhhh......no
My guns are already smarter than that. They fire only when their triggers are pulled. Yes, I know it's amazing, but that's the way they operate - every one of them.
In true FReeper fashion, I didn’t read the article. And I’m not going to read it before I insert my opinion.
As an American, who knows how to read and interpret simple documents such as the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution, a smart gun is absolutely an infringement upon my rights and thus, NO, I will not accept it.
Can the firearm be REMOTELY turned off by say the government during times of unrest?
I’ll bet it can, so not for me.
Does the manufacturer think putting an American flag on it will lead to widespread acceptance?
I forgot to put on my watch this morning. Now I am going to die.
OK, I just read the article
NO!
. . . . implanted.
OK.
Where do I by shares? /s
I do not own a pistol, but even I can see immediately multiple issues with this thing that “No-Go” it as a carry arm.
First of which is reliability of function.
If it no go “Bang” when the clicky bit gets clicked when you really need it to, you are boned.
And this system, like all “smert gun” systems, interferes with that clicky bit if there’s no power to the “smert” bits.
Plain old Dumb Gun would be better.
I wonder what the police unions would say in Seattle and NY if their Mayors demanded they use these “smart” guns?
LOL.
They will pay off a politician or two to make these things mandatory.
