Jordan Valenzuela, a 12-year-old classmate of the girls, told The Associated Press he was in the room next door when the gun went off and talked to her minutes later.
She was crying, Jordan said. She was like, I didnt mean to. I had the gun in my backpack and I didnt know it was loaded and my backpack fell and the gun went off.'
Jordan said he saw a hole in the backpack, which the girl was holding, when she asked him to hide the gun for her.
I said No,' he said. Then I moved away from her because I was a little bit scared.

Most accidental shootings involve someone actually handling firearms, as opposed to guns getting dropped, said Pete Gagliardi, a former longtime agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Its pretty rare to hear about an incident like this, Gagliardi said of Thursdays shooting.
He said the gun wouldnt necessarily had to have been cocked to go off in the girls backpack, but mostly likely would have had to have become entangled with something inside the bag for the trigger to have been pressed.

Right. The gun was hangry. She din do nuffin, senor.
So much for LA’s “zero tolerance” gun enforcement.
Oddly enough, I’m not buying this.
If only the gun had been registered, this wouldn't have happened.
Exactly
I have missed something perhaps - Were there four shots fired or not?
She was so startled she kept dropping it?
but mostly likely would have had to have become entangled with something inside the bag for the trigger to have been pressed. Like her finger.
Thus, the moral of the story.
Uno
This sounds like an FBI investigation now.
Glock. If a round is chambered, its cocked. There is no external safety other than the so called, trigger safety. Women have had these things go off while groping around in their purse. PS, just for kicks, I had a G19.
Reports of lipstick tube in the trigger guard and subsequent purse jostling causing ignition.

It was one of those bump-stock-backpacks.
I heard on the news her family didn't own any guns, and they don't know where she got it. That is possible. They had better find out where she got it. And why it was loaded. And why in the hell she would put it in her backpack and bring it into the school.
I was familiar with rifles but not handguns at age 12, not too much, but pulling a stunt like that wasn't even on my radar. And it wasn't something we had to be told was prohibited. I think I did carry my pocket knife to school on occasion which would be a no no now.
I’m guessing 1 shot, 4 injured in the pathway or from fragments. But haven’t seen that affirmed.
Not sure I buy any of this
undocumented people, unregistered guns...
Folks, similar thing I wanna ask about...
My son is in Jr High, 7th grade.
Girl comes to school and is busted for bringing Marijuana to school. She gets suspended for 2-3 days, but then is back in school.
