LAX to launch bathroom technology that lets you know when you can go

LAX officials are teaming up with two technology companies — Infax and Tooshlights — to install lights and digital gadgets that keep track of how often bathrooms are cleaned and let travelers know when a stall is in use or vacant.

The new "smart restroom" pilot project will be introduced Wednesday on a bathroom at Terminal 4, which is occupied by American Airlines, American Eagle and Qantas. Lights that turn green when a stall is vacant and red when a stall is occupied are being installed above each stall.

The Tooshlights system will be tied in with technology by Infax to keep track of how often a bathroom is used and when it needs to be cleaned. The new digital system keeps track of the number of people who use a bathroom and alerts a janitor to clean it when it has reached a specific passenger usage threshold. The same system tells managers when and how often bathrooms are cleaned.

Do they make you register your “gender” so they can usher you into the politically correct stall?

Don’t give them ideas.

Red for Occupied; Green for Vacant. I wonder why nobody thought of that before?

Half of the electronic gadgets will be broken within six months, never be repaired, and be an eyesore forevermore.

"Lets you know when you can go"

I think this is usually called "potty training" for toddlers!

“”I wonder why nobody thought of that before?””

Probably because it doesn’t take a genius to figure out whether or not it’s occupied!

Does it let you know when the smell has cleared?

Sounds like a great way to spend a lot of money for an unneeded project. I suspect Infax has some good friends high up in the chain.

LOL! I’ll stick to the analog way of determining if the stall empty. When you see feet under the stall door, someone is in it. As for things being clean or not, I can see visions of thousands of unhappy women unable to use a restroom at the airport because the stall shut down due to filth. A waste of time and money. Good grief!

Airport taxes. I was a vendor during the development of the international terminal at SFO. It was a huge project and a certain percent of the total budget (I don’t recall how much) had to be spent on “art”. They were swimming cash trying to figure out how to spend those millions.

It would be nice if they would at least make sure there was a square to spare. Sanalac did a good job with rest room supplies. They had a small but prestigious group of clients. Mr. Zimmer on line 2 was one of them. Mr. Tuttle always took his calls before finishing his interviews and going on vacation. You are aware that they handled the Penske file. Their entire board of directors had their cars towed but they were prohibited from doing business and no place to go anyway.

No way...how could you possibly see if it is occupied without sensors, the IOT, electronics, radio transmitters, and an app? I just don't see how it can be done. I guess I'm just a troglodyte when it comes to such sophisticated and complex things.

That's all fine and good, but does it track how many squares are still on the roll?

OMG!!! Human beings are now not even capable of checking a stall in a bathroom themselves. Their inability for decision making has dropped to that level. According to the f..ng arrogant technologists.

None of this is about helping humans be human or any necessity. It is 100% about pushing technology for the sake of pushing technology.
