In "1984" the state forces telescreens in every home and workplace. In our modern world people voluntarily give up their privacy for Big Brother Zuckerberg and Bezos.

I’m shocked, in meetings where I work, how many of us have tape over the cameras on our laptops.

We have a smart TV at home and have frosted tape over the camera. We have a microphone on our remote but to activate it we must accept their terms, which we’ve never done.

When money in ones hands no longer exists, freedom is gone. Older Baby Boomers will be the last of those who won't voluntarily give up the existence of money that's any more than a credit in a supervised account.

I fear that our last expression of freedom was electing President Trump. The (not so) Invisible Hand won't let that happen again.

Just my honest (outlier) opinion

The same patent applications reveals a device that could 'recognize a T-shirt on a floor of the user's closet' with Will Smith's face.

Whew. I guess I'm in the clear. I don't own a T-shirt with a picture of Will Smith's face on it...

;-)

I guess that means humans are even more like sheep than George Orwell thought they were.

Have them listen for the n-word, or signs of islamophobia. Oh yes, they can monitor to be sure you use the new government-approved pronouns and fine you for every violation.

China is already fining people for anti-social behavior. The left loves China because it is a repressive, socialist state. Will happen here. CA first, then Oregon.

Orwell’s “1984” is supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual.

Big Data is evil.

Today, people put these in their homes voluntarily... for now.

It really is dumfounding that people willingly allow these things into their homes.

Am I the only one who has no interest in a home spy like Alexa etc? They are becoming ubiquitous but I don’t even see the draw.

The enemies of the state WILL profile each individual it can, and use that profile to target “undesirables”. Enormous amounts of data are already mined for other purposes; however, the day is soon coming when the rats get back in power, and use this information against its opponents to take property they do not want you to have, and rights they do not want you to have.

Because they care... about selling your data. Nefarious uses are certainly possible, it’s not just pharmaceutical companies and home improvement stores.
