Kings Bay Plowshares protested nuclear weapons on submarine base

ST. MARYS, Ga. - Seven members of a group called Kings Bay Plowshares were arrested Thursday after they slipped onto the Kings Bay Submarine Base and vandalized some signs, according to a base spokesman.

A news release on the Kings Bay Plowshares Facebook page said the seven Catholic activists got onto the St. Marys base Wednesday night, carrying hammers and "baby bottles of their own blood."

More Headlines 2 sailors die 4 days apart in same Kingsland home Retirement ceremony held for Coast Guard K-9 Navy sailor charged with sexual exploitation of children The base's gates are staffed with security at all times, so it’s uncertain how the protesters gained access to the base, but Kings Bay public affairs office spokesman Scott Bassett said no personnel or facilities were ever threatened.

It's possible the seven activists were there for hours before they were caught, and Bassett confirmed security measures at the base are being reviewed.

"I believe they walked on," Plowshares supporter Jessica Stewart said. "They went through a fence and walked on. Surprisingly, considering it’s a nuclear installation, I don’t think it was difficult for them to gain access."

The group, which is opposed to nuclear weapons and advocates active resistance to war, tried to "convert weapons of mass destruction," the release said.

"They were seeking through their actions to disarm those weapons symbolically and move us toward a world where we have economic justice, where racism has been dismantled and where we can live in peace," Stewart said. "I don’t think they feel they were breaking the law. I think they feel they were following international law, which calls on citizens to prevent unjust war and the proliferation of nuclear weapons and crimes against humanity."

King's Bay is the Navy's Atlantic Ocean Trident port with six ballistic missile subs and two guided missile subs.

The activists said they chose to enter the base on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The group's Facebook post said the men and women divided up and went to the administration building, the D5 Missile monument installation and the nuclear weapons storage bunkers with crime scene tape, hammers and banners reading:

"The ultimate logic of racism is genocide" -- Dr. Martin Luther King (Jr.)

"The ultimate logic of Trident is omnicide"

"Nuclear weapons: illegal -- immoral."

The activists, who are being held without bond in the Camden County Jail on charges of trespassing and defacing government property, are:

Clare Grady, 59, Ithaca, New York

Martha Hennessey, 62, Perkinsville, Vermont

Carmen Trotta, 55, New York City

Elizabeth McAlister, 78, Baltimore Patrick O’Neil, 61, Garner, North Carolina

Mark Corville, 55, New Haven, Connecticut

Stephen Kelly, 69, Los Gatos, California

The seven will appear Friday morning at a bond hearing.

Shouldn’t these “Catholic Activist’s” be breaking into a Planned Parenthood Clinic instead?

These filthy scumbags are not “anti-war activists”.
They are “anti-military activists.”

If they were actually opposed to war, they would be protesting the people who actually decide whether or not there will be wars...which would be The State Department.

I do not believe for even a fraction of a second that they are merely stupid.

5 years hard labor should be about an appropriate sentence.

Here’s a crazy idea: How about reading the Bible? Nothing is going to be corrected until the Antichrist rises first and is defeated by Jesus at His Second Coming (Revelation 19).

THEN you’ll see 1,000 years of REAL peace on Earth.

]I think they feel they were following international law]

Well, how very Globalist and NWO of them.

5 cents says these activists are from a liberal congregation that had no problems with the agendas of Barack Hussein Obama.

IOW, they most certainly would NOT be protesting a Planned Parenthood.

There was a time when I was on the team that reviewed base security. My guess is that they cut through a fence in a remote area. No way they could have walked through a gate that was manned.

I foresee a change of command. They will probably try to pin it on some dumb PFC.

They usually do.

True but nobody likes looking bad.

The base is about 16,000 acres. A lot of land to cover.

Why weren’t they shot? They’ve been committing vandalism at military bases for years and never got a serious prison sentence.

Time to put them in jail for the rest of their lives. Nobody will miss them. Eliz. McAllister is a professional protestor, one of the Berrigan Brothers’ original female companions in crime.

Perhaps someone should point out to these idiots that were it not for nuclear weapons, they would be dealing with far more deadly weapons developed far beyond what they are today: Chen/Bio. Ban nukes get super chem-bio weapons.

Agreed, how could any facility possibly have the highest level of security on miles of perimeter and several square miles of “base” territory. Strategy is to put the security resources where it really matters.

As comparison, nuclear power plants have “concentric” areas with greater levels of access control and security: Owner controlled area, surrounding the Protected Area, and then Vital Areas within the PA. OCA boundary may have no fence at all, or may include a generally accessible parking lot anyone could access. OCA may have some camera observation, or parts have no surveillance at all. OCA will include Jersey barriers and other large cement things to preclude vehicle access within some close range to the Protected Area. Fences, razor wire and heavy electronic and armed human observation surrounds the PA. Keycard access needed for Vital area.

The fact that the pentration of these libtards was no big deal is evidenced by what they threw some blood on: some signs. Only other thing they probably could have marked were palmettos or scrub oaks in the area they penetrated. I love the fact that the law enforcement action is STIFF.

My comment is a little off topic, but is referred to in the article....

Who was a key figure in the JFK and MLK assassinations?
None other than the dirty Lyndon Baines Johnson!

JFK died to get LBJ the POTUS seat. MLK died to support LBJ’s Great Society plan to have “n-——s voting for Democrats for a hundred years”.

I was on an a/c carrier ‘60-’62 with nukes. They were guarded below deck by armed Marines and when moved to the flight deck to arm aircraft.

I can’t imagine that a Naval facility with nukes would not have armed Marines for base security.

Good point. Look like losers who had no purpose in their lives since the Vietnam War ended. Some substitute “environmentalism/save the whales”, but it doesn’t really take because nobody honestly gives a sh!t about that once it will impact their own behavior.
