Facebook gave access to their subscriber's data via API and WSDL.
Nobody can access Facebook data without these two. Why isn't anyone asking Zuckerberg about this?
I am proposing this for my wife who has been a programmer for over thirty five years. She's screaming at the television and heading for the wine bottle.
Anybody have any thoughts about these "in depth" hearings. To me as a computer illiterate, it does seem like most of the questions are coming from people who don't understand the field.
WSDL is old as is SOAP. They’re likely using some native web API.
"How did anyone gain access subscriber's data without an API and WSDL?"

Zuckerboy didn’t become a multi billionare by giving things away. He sold access to your data.
All standard databases have APIs, without them they can’t work. If FBs data wasn’t properly firewalled all you need is the address to hit, and a good guess as to what tools they use. Last I heard they were running MySQL, you can get that API anywhere.
He’s “Data” from Star Trek.
Probably a standard REST API that uses JSON format.
"Did FakeBook write, install and enable the API to mine people's data?"
They had to. The REAL question is:
"Mr Zuckerbuck, WHO did you provide the API to, and how much did they pay you?"
Obama, Cambridge Analytica, the Clinton Clan, and any other Democrats that could afford it.
Yep. Nobody reinvents the wheel anymore, use the publicly available tools. Increases stability, lowers training time for new hires. Just firewall that crap. Of course part of their problem is they sell access to the data, which automatically creates configuration problems. You want the people paying you to be able to access the data, and once you let in legit people you now have a security hole.
I’ve put social login on a couple of websites. You go to developers.facebook.com(register as developer first), create an app, get an app ID and some codes/keys and the app is automatically approved to pull the basic info from the end user that logs in with their fb. Email, name, and profile. You can have other permissions approved like all their friends profiles, email and more, way to much really, but the app would have to be reviewed then. All those extra permissions, people can opt out of on the fb login popup but how many people do?
A facebook app can be anything from that simple fb login all the way to a full blown facebook game.
Tell your wife she is correct.

FB is a CIA asset IMO.
Yup, he's Data, but without Data's interpersonal skills.

You could create a browser plug-in to overlay functionality on top of FB.
Havoc would ensue when their attempts at censorship failed when using the plug-in and they were exposed.
simple... ASK ROBERT GIBBS.... obama’s ex press sec who went to “WORK” there...
Keep in mind that Zuckerberg stole the process when he was in College and eventually settled out of court to three folks who started it.

LOL. I told her. She says, thanks.
Probably a standard REST API that uses JSON format.

The numb nut Senators were baffled by discussion of browser cookies and whether or not Facebook could still “see” your data if you were logged out (*sheesh*). If anybody started talking APIs or JSON, I’d bet the first question from one of the august senators would be “For the record, what’s Jason’s last name?”
Not hearing the name "Obama" much in these hearings. Hmmm.....?
