NY and NE would roll over and present itself for mercy. The real ‘Americans ‘ living in NY and NE would fight against the liberal state. ( there are enough of us to make a difference and we are the armed ones)

Entertaining, but biased. Labeled Georgia and other Souterners as fanatics.

Illinois remained calm???

Southern and middle Illinois has little use for the Chicago metro area.

Californians would have to put so much effort into controlling the looting that would erupt within the state that they wouldn’t be able to organize any effective offensive force and probably not even any effective defensive force.

I didn’t read the article, but off the top of my head, I’m going with Texas.

Story not realistic as it does not confront issues of drug cartel roles or big gang activity, nor reactions of feral populations in the inner cities.

Meanwhile, where does all the food come from and how does it get there for the grocery stores which operate on JIT principles?

What role does starvation play:? What happens to the millions which need constant medical treatment? Where and how are all the bodies buried.

Who is manufacturing all the munitions?

Using nuclear weapons in the situation presented is just plain counter-productive.

What about all the anti-gun people, especially in California? With some many against guns, where do its troops come from?

And so on ...

This was a silly read. It would not be region against region. It would be city against rural. The war, as most do, would break down into who gives up the soonest in the face of starvation, lack of water and electricity, lack of medical supplies.

Oil products (diesel and gasoline especially) would not be available and movement of goods would grind to a halt. Factories would shut down without inputs and outputs. Widespread electrical outages everywhere. It would be disease and famine claiming most, not warfare.

A whole lot of bunk.

The next civil war won't look anything like the last one with two sides having geographic boundaries, distinct uniforms, and a clearly defined chain of command.

It'll be like Syria, factional warfare. Smaller, loose-knit and fluid organizations, many with little military training or discipline, poor structure and leadership.

These organizations will have different goals and objectives that shift over time and situation and even those who share the same ideology will have squabbles over egos and leadership. Groups with opposing views will align with each other to vanquish other groups and then find themselves fighting each other once again.

Then add to the mix a multitude of armed bands of marauders and various criminals who are just out to rob and rape.

It's gonna be fun!

I’d put my money on Southerners, like Kentucky, West Virginia or Tennessee. A hilly terrain is hard to take. Lots of natural spring water, people already heat their homes with wood and most are experienced hunters. And they’re well armed. If I’m not mistaken, Southern states produced a higher number of serviceman - folks who already know how to fight.

The premise is stupid. States would form confederations. Why would Arkansas fight Oklahoma?

Unrealistic and poorly imagined. The author is almost indifferent to local character and not terribly well informed on weapons outside those in use by the USMC.
- He doesn’t have Salt Lake City take charge of Utah plus the surrounding Mormon areas, as they would in such a crisis.
- He doesn’t have significant friction between urban areas and their rural surroundings, as we would certainly see from Chicago, New York City, and Philadelphia.
- He has Virginia take Maryland - why would they want a far-left freak state that produces almost nothing they need?
- He has Texas fighting wars of conquest - why would they want the other states?

“The war reached a turning point when a New York based flotilla made a decisive push to take Washington D.C. In response, a nuclear device was used on the fleet and all the ships, sailors and Marines on that mission were lost.”

Nope. Nukes are not magic, and warships need far more elbow room just to sail safely. Unless the “flotilla” is two or three ships total and they are sailing too close to each other, that’s not happening.

“The West coast was now controlled by the two main powers-California with its seat of power in San Francisco and The North West Union (Washington, Oregon, and Idaho) centered in Seattle.”

There is no way in the world that Idaho could be controlled by a government centered in Seattle. They have lumber, minerals, beef, corn, potatoes, sugar beets, nuclear power, and hydroelectric power. They don’t need anyone else. The state as a whole is not fond of (moderate) Boise’s comparative liberalism, and they despise Seattle as much as they despise California.

I could go on, but I found his fantasy useless. Texas is not California but with less fruit and vegetable acreage for their agriculture. The states still have distinctive characters, as do rural parts of states controlled by their urban zones, and he doesn’t take either fact into account at all.

“neo-confederates”

Sigh... BS/bias meter went off the scale. California and NY would have no soldiers...beaners and other illegals would form factions to protect themselves and and say screw you gringos! Libtards would wet their pants.

There is no such thing as “the Carolinas.”

North Carolina with it’s gun culture, military bases, and retired military didn’t even get real consideration. Pretty stupid. New Yorkers and Californians in the military, in large part serving in NC would stay. Their states’ leaders hate them.

California, Oregon, and Washington states don’t have the guts or economy to pull this off. The mental status of these Starbucks, tree hugging, libs wouldn’t even know how to pull this off. Btw, what would all those marines in ca,p Pendleton do, sit on their thumbs the whole time?

Not buying this.

They pushed to claim all of New England and the food wealth they will need

Apples, maple syrup, dairy cows? New England is infamous for its rocky soil. FIne for lumber and the forementioned crops, and enough for small time niche farms, NOTHING like the midwest in food capacity. Upstate New York has PLENTY of agricultural capacity, and access to the Great Lakes.

Given the premise that the battle would be state vs. state it was an interesting story. I would watch a Netflix, A&E or similar network version but any of the big four networks would screw it up.

However in reality a second civil war would be urban vs. rural and red vs. blue with a lot of Chinese "peacekeepers" sent in quickly.

What a piece of non-nonsensical fantasy by a women writer, all to promote a women savior in the end. Aming other things, as if Russia and China etc, would not take advantage of any internecine war of anything close to to what is described, as well as liberal lust for totalitarian control (the spiritual battle btwn opposing ideologies is not even mentioned as the real battle), and as if individual state control of B2 bombers, etc. would be a great advantage apart from space assets requiring Federal network.

If the states were allowed to keep the weapons currently within their borders, North Dakota would roll.
