Pornography is "Root Cause" of School Shootings

Republican Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee recently cited pornography, along with the deterioration of the family and violent movies, as a contributing factor to gun violence in schools.

Black made the remarks during a listening session with local pastors last week.

"Why do we see kids being so violent? What's out there? What makes them do that?" Black said.

"Because, as a nurse, I go back to root cause. And I think it's a couple things," Black said, listing off deterioration of the family and violent movies, before mentioning pornography.

"Pornography. It's available. It's available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there's pornography there," Black says in the audio. "All of this is available without parental guidance."

She adds, "And I think that's a big part of the root cause, that we see so many young people that have mental illness get caught in these places." In the audio, Black does not detail what it is about pornography that she believes contributes to school shootings.

"I think the context is pretty clear," Black's campaign spokesman Chris Hartline told CNN Tuesday. "Diane believes the breakdown of families and communities plays a significant role in instances of school violence."

I dunno, Laz. Words’ meanings change. Gay used to mean happy. Some of the stuff in Cosmo and other women’s mags used to be considered porn. And that’s the point. Classic “slippery slope” definition.

BINGO. I was composing a similar answer in my head, and you did it much better than I was about to. It all boils down to who we are becoming, thanks to what we think and do.

Thanks, NorthMountain.

But wouldn’t it affect their aim and ability to see their intended victims? I wood think the gun would be harder to hold on to.

From some of the comments I read here, some FReepers think porn is harmless. Just because it doesn’t make everyone who indulges in it, shoot up a school or workplace, doesn’t mean it doesn’t negatively affect users. You can try to fool yourself into thinking it’s innocuous, but it’s NOT, It causes destruction in your soul, and I guarantee that the users of it are having problems in their life because of it.

We’ve had porn since people could paint and sculpt; or probably tell stories.

just more grist for the nanny state faux conservatives who want to regulate what people can see and create.

Its not porn. Its violent rap music listened to for hours, weeks, months and years.

The causes and symptoms of a debased and degraded society shouldn't be treated as "either/or" but as "both/and".
