Not particularly a fan of Pantera or that genre of music, but he and his late brother, Dimebag Darrell, were a huge part of the DFW community.
Guy could party with the rest of them. The most infamous story was the pool party at his house after the Stars won The Stanley Cup, when they dented the Cup while trying to throw it from the third-floor into the pool.
Sad. Plus his brother was an amazing guitarist, assassinated on stage.
RIP.
Sad what drugs do to people, and yet many STILL want to legalize them.
(I have no clue in this case, but it’s safe to assume that he’d at least been ‘around’ drugs once in a while, given his career)
Almost all the accounts I heard said he was a really cool guy, friendly to anyone he met.
But that lifestyle will take a toll, plus he was a big boy, to boot.
Probably his weight, as much as anything.
That certainly doesn’t help!
And Deanna Lund of Land of the Giants fame died at 81. Im mentioning it here because she loved Pantera. Not really, but I dont want to start a thread. Great show.
Lots of arrest, tows and fines for those that drove to his house in that town at that time.
Jeez. Not exactly what I expected when I logged onto FR tonight. R.I.P. Good band. We have similar tastes, DFW. :-)
Heavy Metal drummer dying an early death? UNPOSSIBLE!!!!!!
Whether you liked their music or not, he & his brother Darrell were amazingly talented musicians. You knew it was a Pantera song the minute you heard the guitar riffs, bass.
To see his brother die like that, right in front of him..had to haunt him the rest of his life..RIP Vinnie.
Very sad indeed. Amazing drummer. I was a huge fan of the first album, the later stuff not so much.
Yeah, so sad that he died a couple days ago. My friend, Ralph Santolla from Deicide and Obituary died two weeks ago from a heart attack too. Its sad to see so many wonderful musicians leaving us so often these days.
Yep. NBC5 news Sunday had a piece on him. He was a huge Dallas Stars fan; almost like an adopted non-skating team mate. They mentioned the Stanley Cup ending up at the bottom of his pool.
That’s his song they play whenever they score a goal.
Didnt Santolla play with Iced Earth for a while too?
