Ronald Reagan Museum. Points of interest we must see?

"Old" School Reagan Republican here.

My 99 year old grandmother mentioned she'd like to go see the Genghis Khan exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Museum.

I've never been, she's never been.

We're going.

So, if you've been there....what is Must See?

Genghis Khan. Then what.

Me and gramma talk politics quite a bit. We both leave the conversation laughing.

Where should I push her to after Genghis Khan?

99.

Thank You.

TOPICS: Education; History; Society
KEYWORDS: genghis; khan; museum; reagan; reaganlibrary
Suggestions welcome.

She also loves Costco hotdogs. They got a cheesy foodcart somewhere nearby we could stop?

99.

Thank you.

;)

I love the replica of the Oval Office. In it, you hear RR’s own voice telling you how much he revered the history of the room, so he never even removed his jacket while within its walls. Makes you think of how easily Clinton dropped his pants in there.

I also love AF1.

She’d love that. And on the drive home I could mention your comment about Clinton’s pants. Claim it as my own.

I’ll do it. TY :)

Air Force One is worth a look. Not sure how they manage the wheelchair accessibility to it, but I think they do. Also, my kids like the chunk of the Berlin wall.

Definitely claim it as your own! 99 year old granny will probably laugh, if she remembers Bill Clinton. Have fun. Wave as you drive by.

The view off the back balcony is spectacular. A tour around the outside gardens, planes, and statues is very nice.

Airforce One is great but I don't know how practical it would be to go through it.

1) go early, parking gets full
2) go early also because it will get VERY hot in afternoon (esp the end of this week: heat wave hitting LA county!) so drink plenty of water!!!
3) i dont know of hot dog stuff there...simi valley surrounding area offers pretty generic options — but I think there is a nice sandwich type place where you can get tea, cold drinks inside the library. :)
4) the VIEW is gorgeous esp on clear day you can get a view of ocean in the distance.
5) if you allot several hours, i think you’ll be able to cover the whole museum. My interest is in all the Cold War stuff.

It’s just fun to look at, Grandma doesn’t need to get in AF1.

Visit the grave site for a moment to contemplate how fortunate all of us are for this great man. Then take a look at the slab of concrete Berlin wall, with its West side and its East side. It speaks volumes. Then go back to his resting place and thank him again.

I still get goosebumps! They loop (or at least they used to) a recording of President Reagan’s speech saying, “Mr. Gobachav, tear down this wall!”

That line about tearing down the wall was all Reagan. He added it to the original speech. All the policy people review all presidential speeches to make sure they fit with U.S. policy.

That line kept getting deleted. He would add it back in every time. The speeches would go back and forth through all the various departments that might be affected by a speech - so a dozen times maybe.

On the way to the wall, in the limo, Reagan found the page and added it back in!

My MIL is 95, and she sleeps more than a teenager. Congrats on an alert and active 99 year old.

It is great she is still around for you. Mine straightened my kids out when they were in high school, and they were being “taught” about WWII. Best teacher is someone with a little life experience.

Me, mom, and gramma. Couple hours drivin, and we’re there.

The Library is beautiful outside. Khan exhibit is also very cool. They had a traditional folk dancer and a Khan era musical instrument. It only had 2 strings...made of horse hair. Played beautifully.

Lots of shared memories, and remembories walking through the hallways there.

It’s hard to remember just how much that man did. Great time to go, great people to go with...and yeah, we had a really good time.

I’d encourage anyone that hasn’t been there to take an afternoon, if you have it. Tickets are cheap, like 25 bucks. Free parking.

Visited the Gravesite. Sat there for a few minutes and tried to take in everything we just saw.

Gave him the salute he deserved, then we left.
