I saw the 1970 German Frand Prix, at Hockenheimring. Won by Jochen Rindt, weeks before he died in Italy, practice or qualification.
We used to go to that track often for many categories of racing, with sidecar motorcycles being the most fun to watch.
An open class race took place almost every time we went, between a BMW 1600 or 2002 and a Corvette.
The trunk of the BMW was propped open, to effect a wing.
The vette pulled ahead on straights, but the BMW closed in the curves in front of the stands.
Im present Boss.
TS- Ill bet that BMW vs Vette was interesting. In My younger years (when I worked at a parts store and had access to a machine shop and could afford it) I Married into a 68 2002 that was a hodgepodge of 2002/1600 parts. Had the POS Solex 2bbl card that was replaced with a Weber, ported and polished the head and shaved a few mm to up the CR, lightened the rods and pistons, balanced the bottom end, Header and custom exhaust, Bilstien shocks, V Rated Metzler tyres. It was like driving a big Go Cart that was on Fly Paper even in the wet.
I kinda miss it but not the cost and maintenance parts.
My old green 2002 was prolly my favorite ever auto.
Still running strong with over 250K on the clock, but the body pretty much evaporated.
Truth be told, the way I drove it sometimes, I should already be in the ground or a jar.
:-)
yup, the Vette’s pay a heavy as in “heavy” price under breaking and in the corners
