The next chapter in Dick Wolfs criminal justice franchise is officially in the works with NBC ordering 13 episodes of Law & Order: Hate Crimes. Per a release, this new series is based on New Yorks actual Hate Crimes Task Force, the second oldest bias-based task force in the U.S. The unit, which pledges to uphold a zero tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind, works under the NYPDs real Special Victims Unit and often borrows SVUs detectives to assist in their investigations.
As you might have been able to infer from that last sentence, the Hate Crimes team will be introduced during the upcoming 20th season of Law & Order: SVU before becoming its own series. An exact premiere date or even a time frame is not yet known. Joining Wolf as a co-creator is SVU showrunner Warren Leight.
As with all of my crime shows, I want to depict whats really going on in our cities and shine a light on the wide-ranging victims and show that justice can prevail, Wolf said in a statement. Twenty years ago when SVU began, very few people felt comfortable coming forward and reporting these crimes, but when you bring the stories into peoples living rooms with characters as empathetic as Olivia Benson a real dialogue can begin. Thats what I hope we can do with this new show in a world where hate crimes have reached an egregious level.
Added Leight, Im extremely impressed by the actual men and women investigating these cases in a city as complicated and diverse as New York. The work they are doing puts them on the front lines in a battle for the soul of our city and nation. Im thrilled about the chance to reunite with Dick and NBC to portray the reality of this crisis.
DOINK DOINK
What if you hate NBC.
L&A has always been laced with left wing BS. Nothing new here.
Law & Order has ruined our faith in the justice system.
We can probably play out most of the plots in our heads — hate crimes against select groups.
I never could be that interested in any of the L&O series. I will likely have that same lack of interest for the new series.
Filthy Heathen Liberals know all about Hate Crimes. They invented them.
I was turned off on L&O during the first year when the DA went after a person because he just didnt like what he had done. Not the legalities of the action but it offended him. Having actually worked in the legal system, I have seen this too often.
Heh, anyone actually watch NBC?
All the hate crimes will be committed by gun owners, and Trump-type supporters; there will be no islamic hate crimes; and there will be at least one hate crime committed by Orthodox Jews.
I already know that, and I haven’t even seen the series yet.
Every offender will be a white supremacist sympathetic to the Fred Phelps cult.
Chance of the offender playing the knockout game? Nil.
I hate Comcast (parent company of NBC Universal) for being the Party Organ.
i loved L&O- all of them. Then SVU could not keep Trump’s “name” outta their mouth- constant bashing of “our president”.
I want to watch this last season of SVU but I sure am sick of their political bullshit.
I will not watch Hate Crimes.
I barely watched TV for years/decades, except for 24 & Lost. But, I got pretty sick a couple of years ago and during that time, I began binge watching all the well known shows. I discovered SVU and Criminal Minds. I really enjoy them. But, I prefer the older SVU episodes/ seasons. Now the show is all about Benson as she carries around that angry look of hers. Its also had become blatant with a left wing political bias. They have really ruined the show over the last 2 plus seasons.
Ill definitely check out this new L&O show. So, thank you for this post. While waiting for the next season of The Crown to return, Ive just started watching The X Files. That should keep me busy for a good long while!
Mariska Hargitay is still hot enough to tune in, but you have to keep the show on mute.
I liked L&O up until the early Curtis era.
Briscoe made the show for me.
Additionally, I use the the chung-chung sound for my office Outlook new mail sound.
Will there be a squad that focuses solely on hate crime HOAXES? Cause they’ll be a lot busier.
That will get old very quickly.
I havent watched L&O yet. Ive seen a show here & there. But, Im planning to start that show from day 1 as well.
I read some where that The Last Ships last season will be coming on this fall. (Sept or Oct). That wasnt bad either.
The early years of L&O were the best ones.
Never cared to watch last ship.
Sometimes I catch Monk binge-a-thons on one of those oddball channels.
Most nights for me, I catch reruns of Alice and Barney Miller on Antenna TV.
What will be the plot? It’s impossible to have hate crimes in a completely Democrat NYC. /src
I agree. Plus, shows like this antagonizes people. It Creates resentment, puts salts in perceivable wounds. Just what our country needs.
