Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs primary victory in June took the Democratic Party and media establishment by surprise. Running in New Yorks fourteenth congressional district, she handily defeated one of the partys most entrenched politicians and quickly became a national figure.
But the question suddenly became, What now?
Theres every reason to believe that Ocasio-Cortezs success in NY-14 can be replicated. Previously powerful Democratic machines are sputtering. Voters are staying at home instead of turning out for Democratic National Committeefavored candidates. And as Ocasio Cortezs race shows, a small group of committed activists with a popular message can win in elections even if theyre massively outspent.
Consider the role of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), whose members helped canvass, phone bank, and fundraise for Ocasio-Cortez. DSA now has over fifty thousand members forty-five thousand more than it did a few years ago. Buoyed by the rise of Bernie Sanders, youth disillusionment with the Democratic center, and outrage at Trumps election, DSA has garnered widespread attention and its share of local victories.

Why? Just go full Communist. A Communist is just a Socialist that kills their adversaries. There are plenty of those there with that mindset if they could get away with it.
I agree. I HOPE they form a Socialist Caucus.....at least we will know who they all are.
Could be a good thing- split the socialists apart from the more traditional Democrats and dilute their vote.
They call themselves Democrats; that’s how we know. Socialists and especially communists rarely identify themselves until they have enough power that no one can stop them. Before the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks were known as Social Democrats.
We have one ALREADY
They are going to get one. There are enough of them now to form one.
The 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign is going to have a lasting impact on our politics.
She’s whining over DC rent so why doesn’t she “just pay for it” like she’s proposing for healthcare. She wears thousand dollar outfits but can’t afford to pay the rent. Typical millennial.
Yes. It always makes me angry that those who cannot be bothered to work and live off the taxpayers, always seem to have phones, game systems and nice cars. Priorities havent been taught, especially moral priorities.
Universities are infested with DSA demmunists...

Does it come with guillotines?
I don’t get that complaint of hers. As a congresswoman, she will be paid about $170k a year, I believe?
And she currently lives in high cost NYC. Does she live with her momma and not pay any rent now? What’s her story?
Having a socialist caucus would be redundant since they already have a black caucus already. They are the same thing.
