Gloria Estefan, who received a Kennedy Center Honors medal last year, has been set to host the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors next month on CBS. The show, which will feature performances and tributes, is being taped Sunday at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, DC ahead of its broadcast December 26 at 8 PM ET/PT.

According to Wikipedia this "award" was to bring the monarchical honoring of "artists" from Europe to what suppose to be the republican United States. Instead of a monarch giving a title to an "artist" the honoree receives a rainbow sash.

I’ve never seen them, but thought I heard the Kennedy center honors were supposed to be some highbrow award. That makes sense.If it was meant to be anything other than "highbrow" they'd call it The Kopeckne Center Honors or the Moxley Center Honors.
