I take this train everyday. Los Angeles allows tent cities next to the tracks. The bums get despondent and kill themselves. It happens once a month on my train. Once a day on all the SoCal trains.
They keep us on the train for 2 or 3 hours waiting for the coroner to do their job. It infuriates me each time.
California politics. They should not allow the bums to live right next to the train tracks. They do because its basically an unincorporated area.
This could lead to a never ending feedback loop which could ultimately claim millions.
I like those floral displays, and I’m not Hispanic.
A woman in a wheelchair was killed crossing the street years ago, a lot of people loved her, and there are always flowers placed where she was run over.
Every time I see them I think of her and her friends.
It’s a reminder of how precious life is.

You couldnt be more wrong. You cannot year or see a train until it is almost on top of you if you are distracted. I take trains and cross numerous crossings on foot every day, and youd be surprised how soon a train can be right next to you without knowing it unless you are paying attention.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!
If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail me.
They do if you ware listening to music.

This is kind of like putting bait in the middle of the road to get roadkill dinner!!!
I know.... sick!!! There has to be a few jokes about this event...
A service of remembrance will be held for the deceased on the tracks at exactly 3:17 in loving memory of the victims.. (Next passenger train time)
Decades ago there was an engineer at my company whose son and wife both committed suicide (at different times) by laying down on railroad tracks........I thought that was very strange.
I guess it’s like an elephant sneaking up on you.
Well, no trains I ever saw did that. I guess that’s just my experience.
Anyways, youi’d think someone would look and be careful considering what he’s putting the flowers on the tracks for.
Wanted to commit suicide and have a hook to be sure it was widely publicized?
Can’t wait for the high speed trains to show up.
Smells like suicide to me. Possibly gay lover of the first deas guy...
But they have upped their game by placing window stickers for their dead on the rear windows of their vehicles.
Putting flowers down for his own funeral?
Actually it is quite easy to not be aware of an approaching train.
Years ago, I did a project for Chicago Transit Authority. Many of the trains are in a very wide freeway median, and they are electric. The traffic noise completely masks the sound of the train approaching.
Every work crew had two spotters -- workers who had the exclusive job of watching for trains -- one for each direction. The spotters would warn the rest of the crew about the coming train.
In many urban locations it is going to be very easy to be unaware of a train coming at you.
I agree. If I need to get anywhere, I take a State Highway that has had numerous accidents through the years. It’s a straight shot, not hard to drive, but still, things happen.
I find the roadside ‘memorials’ a distraction when driving. You can’t HELP but look at them, and there are enough distractions when driving as it is.
There ought to be a law against them!

The presence of train tracks would be an important clue to amp up situational awareness.
