I saw it. Incredibly moving.

Actually has a weird Wizard of Oz touch...the footage is in grainy black and white until they get shipped off to war. Once the soldiers arrive at the front lines, it transforms into restored HD color.

”Is it guys walking for 9 hours?”

My maternal Grandfather was one of those “guys”. You should know better and show a little respect!

I downloaded it from a British torrent site when it aired on UK TV. It’s excellent. They even used lip readers to re-create what the soldiers were saying on the old films they used. I had a great uncle who served with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in France. He was killed two months before the Armistice, and is buried in a British Military Cemetery near Boulogne.

I saw it too, thought it was extremely well done. They pieced together a nice thread of personal stories and anecdotes from British citizens and soldiers, from 1914 through 1918. The restored and colorized video was impressive too, but I'm not sure if it was because of the freshening-up or the corrected frame speed. The cartoonish look of the old films just evaporated.

I wish I'd had time to linger and see the "behind the scenes" video on how they accomplished it all.

I'll bet the mud eruptions from the German tunneling and trench mining activities were really something in 3-D.

In the behind the scenes part, Jackson mentioned that when the colorizing folks got to the uniforms, he loaned them his private collection of WWI uniforms. When the sound folks wanted to do the cannons, he loaned them his private collection of WWI cannons...
