DC to run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2032

WASHINGTON — The Clean Energy D.C. Omnibus Act of 2018, one of the toughest laws on clean energy in the nation, was passed unanimously by the D.C. Council Tuesday.

It means the District will run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2032.

The bill outlines strict energy efficiency requirements for new and existing buildings, provides tax incentives for the use of electric cars and allows the mayor to implement carbon fees on gas sales, as well as work with Maryland and Virginia to reduce regional emissions.

“This bill will also add and increase Sustainable Energy Trust Fund fees to fund sustainable programs and also to benefit low income residents, which we know is exceedingly important,” said Councilman Vincent Gray.

“I think with this bill, the District can continue down the path of setting the standard of sustainability efforts.”

Chairman Phil Mendelson acknowledged that there is still work to be done, including securing funding, but says he remains optimistic.

“This bill really does go quite far. It is significant and I think that it will be a benchmark against which advocates can advocate in other jurisdictions,” he said.

Washington D.C. probably contains the highest percentage of limousine driving, private plane flying, multiple home owning population on the face of the earth.

BS
Electricity, like money, is fungible. So DC’s electricity is a composite of NG, Coal, Nuke, and others. No it is possible to pay the electricity provider extra money to generate from a particular source.

Great!

Since DC will go dark in 2032, might want to start leasing some space for the Fed Gov’t elsewhere - how about Mesa, AZ,Oklahoma City, or Va. Beach (top 3 most conservative cities according to Forbes)?

DC is beautiful around the mall and within a couple of blocks, the rest is a s...hole. That is why everyone lives in Va or MD.

Yeah, I’m sure it will. And Hillary Clinton has a 95% chance of winning.

It is going to be a failure. But that doesn’t matter to these people. The key to it all is the words: “... add and increase ... fees ... to benefit low income residents”

So, force working people to pay high taxes on energy, and those taxes go right into the pockets of those who do not work for a living and who never will.

The current standard requires these utility providers to generate 50 percent of their supply from renewable
sources by 2032, a carve-out of which must be from solar energy equal to 5 percent of the energy
supply. Energy suppliers meet these requirements through the purchase of Renewable Energy
Credits (REC) from renewable energy producers.

Key words: Renewable Energy Credits.

Typical Global Warming Weenie nonsense. Pick a date far, far out into the future, then tack something impossible onto it.

I think I’ll give it a try: By 2032 I will stop mocking liberal theories.
Well, that was easy.

What they left out was that Washington DC discovered it contains the largest recoverable reserves of unicorn poop in the world.

Unlimited clean energy. There is no pollution whatsoever when you burn unicorn poop.

The DC Council is a complete joke. Watching them govern is like watching those elephants who paint. In the end, there’s paint smears on a canvas, so I guess you can call it a painting.
