Gardaí were involved in a tense standoff with protesters outside the Irish headquarters of KBC bank in Dublin on Saturday afternoon, hours after a number of branches were attacked in the capital.

The Belgian-owned bank is at the center of a controversial eviction of a farming family in Co. Roscommon last week.

Approximately 25 gardaí stood at the entrance to the KBC office on Sandwith Street in Dublin city center and were confronted by several hundred yellow-vested protesters who had marched through the city earlier.

On Friday night, a branch of KBC was attacked in Dundrum, while another branch was the subject of an arson attack in Swords. Last Thursday, the Sandwith Street building was damaged by fire.

The early morning incident in Swords took place at the bank premises on the Main Street at 5.18am. A Garda spokesman said initial investigations found the front window of the building was broken, where the fire was started. No one was injured but the fire has caused extensive damage to inside the building.

Investigations are continuing and the scene is currently preserved for technical examinations. …

Because they don’t want to travel to the Belgian headquarters.

Also, the bank is involved in the eviction of a farmer. That recalls the mass evictions of farmers prior to and during the Great Famine, as they call the potato famine.

Thanks.

I was wondering why the eviction of one farmer would cause this reaction.

Now, I know!

A farmer borrowed money, promised to pay it back, and didn't. The socialist are upset that the bank is trying to get its money back. And, of course, the Irish have a long history of terrorism, and wouldn't want to miss a chance to firebomb a building.

The “Yellow Jackets” or “Yellow Vest” label caught on and now every protester wants to be one. People who would have been “Occupy” a few years back are now “Yellow.”

The English invade Ireland, the Irish fight back and they’re terrorists?

They are when they target civilians. Department stores, shopping districts, buses, train stations, theaters. Bunch of cowards.

And let's not forget the IRA's work on behalf of the Nazis during World War II.

By the way - do you celebrate August 15?

The IRA are not the Irish.

I had to look it up but I figured you were trying to be a snarky, smart ass.

The Proddies didn’t exactly have clean hands when it came to terrorism, either.

Going back to the reign of Henry II, it was the King of Leinster, Dermot MacMurrough, who sought the help of England against his rivals (he was accused of abducting Derval, queen consort of the region of Breifne) in exchange for permanent servitude (recognizing Henry as the High King in effect); and two popes, Adrian IV and Alexander III, who granted Henry II Lordship of Ireland in exchange for getting rid of the remaining pagan influence on that island (with the help of the Normans under Strongbow). The English “invasions” were sanctioned by the Holy See.

The Irish in the last century had a lot of communists interspersed in their so-called freedom fighters. One of the better-known names from the 1916 rebellion was James Connolly, a friend of Lenin.

And since they gave away their sovereignty in the 1972 referendum on the Third Amendment to their constitution, which put European law supreme over Irish law, once the EU gets its military and really starts abusing the populace, who is going to get them out of that one?
