Lawmakers want to honor the memory of President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara by putting their faces on a coin.
Senator Susan Collins of Maine introduced a bill authorizing the U.S. Treasury to mint one dollar coins featuring the former president and first lady.

Keep some silver, yes, by all means. But only a few random small denominations at any one time in your pocket. They should be old, grungy, beat-up coins, not bright, shiny brand new ones. And never more than a few dollars worth at a time. Enough to buy a loaf of bread, a few aspirin, a piece of fruit, or a few bullets - if you could find any of those things.
So it seems these new Walking Liberties are pretty much useless in any real life situation.

Gold never gets “old and grungy!”
I remember going to the bank and trading a $1 bill for a real silver dollar.
In Canada, they produce a very pure (.9999 24 carat, in some cases .99999) Maple Leaf gold coin. The gold is pure enough to have a laser hologram image on it.
I would like to see the US produce close to pure gold and silver coins as well. And because such coins would be very soft, they would be kept in a transparent container.
But here is the real zinger: put a value on the coin in excess of the value of the metal. Typically the metal is worth far more than the face value, so this would change that.
For example, the current price of an ounce of gold is about $1,340/oz. So mint a Ronald Reagan 1 ounce coin with a face value of $5,000. And have a very detailed and patriotic reverse side laser engraving on the coin.

Being it was 50+ years ago, I cannot recall. Part of me says no. But I remember walking out of the 1st national bank with my prize!

The last Silver Certificates were issued in 1964. That was the same year they stopped making silver coins.
As long as the coin loses 50% of its value every year, I have no problem with it.
The coin should also include a ceremony every year in an abandoned air base, rewarding ATF Gestapo killers for murdering little boys and killing mothers holding babies.
Let’s name it the George Bush Gestapo coin.
We could also honor George Bush tearing up his NRA card.
