My neighbor was mentally disabled due to measles infection when he was a young child, and at age 30, he had the mental development and cognitive abilities of a six year old. But at least he didn’t catch autism.

Prior to 1962 smart mothers made sure their kids got measles, in spite of any risks.
Because the risk at 30 was about a 20% death rate, and if you survived you likely had brain damage.
Before 1962 the death rate for measles was ABOUT one in a thousand, with another 1 or 2 having complications.

Probably ER stocks the trivalent to immunize the herd. Lots of decisions are made that way, like the hep shots for babies. Immunize before they get away rather than when they might need it.
Death is not the only serious complication that can result from measles. Still, that's a significantly higher complication rate than the rate for serious complications from the measles vaccine, which is about 1 person out of every million.

I’m im OR and this is the first I’ve heard of it.
Meanwhile, flu kills 10s of thousands per year in the US alone. 56,000 in the 2012-2013 season. Over 80,000 in the 2016-2017 season.

Yet we don’t have Congressional hearings and moms crazily marching in the streets over the fact somebody didn’t get their flu shot.
Why such hysteria over the MMR?
