HARTLAND -- You may remember Emma Mertens, a 7-year-old terminally ill Hartland girl with a love for dogs. The youngster has received countless letters of encouragements and photos of pups from all around the world -- and on Saturday, March 9, she received an extra special surprise from over 35 K-9 teams from around the state of Wisconsin.

They ALL weren’t on the clock, it was a Saturday and since most dogs live with their officers. I’m sure most took it (the cost) on the chin...

Even if they were on the clock, this is the type thing that build good will between cops and the people they serve. Your Mister Potter act is noted but it is not applicable here.
I can’t agree with you on this. Community outreach is a function of K-9 units, they do it all the time. Who wouldn’t read this story and smile just a little.
Like I said, nice gesture, but if you took 30 k-9 teams, vehicles, and included travel time from all over the state, that would ring up a pretty nice bill.

If you own a dog or two or more sitting down and telling her how they spend their day wouldn’t hurt. I took a little time and did this and sent a few pictures every little bit helps I hope It was a great thing the canine officers did.

He’s not being an asshat. Do you know any LE agencies whose departments are awash in money? If the public paid for this and because of it a team can’t afford to be where it needs to be, or the overtime that generates causes cutbacks elsewhere.
If the teams couldn’t finance this, a better way to handle it would’ve been to hold fundraisers, do the GoFundMe thing. I’m sure the public would have been eager to chip in.

Gosh I hate to see what your comment might be after seeing hundreds of K-9 officers at a fellow officers funeral. You should watch the full 8 minute video and count all the canines. K-9 officers are special!
