Skyler White is the Worst Wife in the History of Anything

I hate Skyler White. Hate. Until recently, I had no idea anyone actually liked her. I don’t know what Walt sees in her, except that she’s sort of pretty. In a nutshell, Walter White’s wife a petty, selfish, demanding bitch who in no way practices what she preaches. Let’s examine the facts, shall we?

The fact you were annoyed by her character shows she was doing a great job acting, as did everyone on that show.

Actually, this is not true at all. Both the actress that played her, and the show’s creator both have stated and written articles that the backlash and dislike that the character has received was unintentional and that neither of them fully understood it. Therefore it was not “good” acting at all.

I couldn't stand her. The points the author make are spot on with the character. Also, she just wasn't my type on looks. This as opposed to my wife who is slender, tan and has long black hair down to her hips at times - and is an incredibly amazing partner in everything. Today we are supposed to go out to look for new clothes but it's a feeling like I'm going to Disney World because I get to spend the day with her.

Yeah. the Skylar character is a big NOPE...

It was her sister, Marie, that drove me crazy. I just cannot stand busybodies like her.

Marie was annoying as hell, but at least she showed her husband some respect and affection. Skyler was a selfish, horrible b from day one. Never an ounce of respect or love for her husband shown.

“horribly dislikable character that was difficult to watch”

Horribly dislikable? Nah. I thought all the characters were interesting and into shades of gray rather than stereotypical black and white. I especially liked the evolution of the characters over time. Great series.

I was trying to think of anyone in that show, family or friend, who was not brought down by Walter’s criminal enterprise. I was thinking there was no one who escaped but then I thought of someone very close to Walt who was not sucked in and brought down by his meth making.

Can you think of who I am talking about? Certainly this person was very adversely affected, but they were never active and involved along with Walter.

"Never an ounce of respect or love for her husband shown."

So true! I wonder if Skyler was supposed to know what happened at Gray Matter. Did she know Walt, in his infinite "wisdom", walked away for a very lucrative career and she never forgave home for that? I'd like to know the writer's background briefs for the characters....

She is a fictional character from a TV show. You don’t need to care. Unless, of course, you are a man thinking of getting married. Then you should study her character like you were studying for a final exam. LOL!

...it's a TV show!

I thought "Breaking Bad" was a great series but I don't understand how some get so emotionally involved in these fictional characters!

To all those folks who haven’t ever watched “Breaking Bad” either the original series or the Netflix archive I would recommend it as required viewing for any serious student of human nature. The entire series is a brilliantly crafted exploration of the decent of ordinary people who “break bad” because of their own weaknesses and are caught in a vortex of evil that ultimate leads to their destruction. Skylar starts out as the pillar of normalcy but moment by moment she succumbs to her darker qualities of suspicion, shame, guilt, and eventually greed to follow Walt down his path of unrestrained evil. The only redeeming characters in the show are Walt’s disabled son and Hank, his DEA brother in law. This is an incredibly painful series to watch but IMO the greatest episodic TV series ever created.

“Jessica Walter played the antagonist in Play Misty for Me and she did such a good job, the theater audience cheered when she got it in the end. Now that’s acting...”

She was fantastic! Love that movie!

I thought sweetheart Mary Steenbergen did an excellent job as a Bad Gal in, ‘Justified.’ She was a brilliant casting choice! She got her Just Desserts, too! ;)

I haven’t watched ‘Breaking Bad’ but it’s in my To-Watch Bucket.

+. Don’t forget the humorous qualities of the series. I about wet myself laughing at the sequence with the RV, keys and the generator.

I started binge watching "The Americans" About a deep cover KGB couple posing as married Americans.

Not sympathetic characters but I found myself hoping they don't get caught when the FBI was closing in.

While a bit more sympathetic, I always thought you could say the same thing about Carmela Soprano.

Redeeming characters? I agree completely about Walt, Jr. But Hank? Mostly he’s an over aggressive fool barely adept at his job. But maybe you’re right; maybe he didn’t always do the right thing, but at least he tried.

I really didn’t see Skyler as starting out as a “ pillar” of anything. She was detached, cold, and mean-spirited from episode one. Never showed respect for her husband. And Hank was portrayed as an a-hole who wasn’t above bending the law himself. Plus he was a staunch drug warrior.

The only really bad things Walt did were poisoning the kid. That was just really out of character and shocking that he would “go there “. And he did kind of cheat that guy out of his car wash. Everything else, that I would remember, was sort of necessary and justifiable given the circumstances.

“Loathed her at first but I’ve since revisited Skyler White. It was essential that Walter had someone in his life to remind him that he had become a scumbag drug dealer and this wasn’t cool.”

I didn’t have too much of a problem with Skyler White who I saw as a typical and realistic unhappy b*tchy wife. My biggest problem with the show was how Walt, the narcisistic drug kingpin, murderer and attempted CHILD murderer was never seen to pay a big enough price. Yes he ultimately died, but I kept waiting for his son to become hooked on the blue meth. In that way Walt’s family would have been destroyed in the same way his product destroyed thousands of other families. That ending would have been especially ironic since he always said he was doing it for “his family”.

Totally. She was only useful in the final episode where we had to kind of pretend Walt loved her for a good reason so the whole story finished in its perfect arc.

Most of us wanted her dead the whole time.
