I might work up some sympathy if there actually were a market for faded, sticky VHS tapes but I'm unaware of one. Anyone who knows is welcome to enlighten me. My family was a little different. Never threw out anything. I got magazines and newspapers from the 20s on up. So much stuff.
I still have my matchbox car collection and comics.
They would have had much value in less than three years later. I had all of the major Yankees, several of each player, and many of the greats like DiMaggio, Ford, Williams, Maris, and Mantle. Shipping was out of the question, my Father was an E-6 and if you remember back then that pay was lower than the poor.

Legally the argument would be the same as if he collected Hummel figurines, which his parents despised.
Much of the argument could center around what was involved with the domestic dispute that resulted in them asking him to leave. Whether or not that dispute was over porn, after that time their destruction of his property could be seen as vindictive by the court.

That's a big IF, and even if the court finds for the landlords on that point, there's still the destruction of the tenant's personal property to be adjudged.
Bringing his porn collection onto the landlord's property could be judged as sufficient grounds for eviction, but that doesn't give the landlord the right to destroy the tenant's personal property.
Red state or blue state, shouldn't matter. The landlords took it upon themselves to destroy the personal property of their tenant without notice, permission, or any legal justification whatsoever.
You're just not allowed to do that in this country.
If I were in the parents' shoes, I'd feel the same, but I would never take it upon myself to destroy another's personal property because I found it morally distasteful.
That's just all kinds of wrong.
So sad. My brother collected every DC and Marvel comic from 1964 to 1967. He must have had a couple of footlockers full of them. He grew bored with them in his mid teens and threw the whole lot away.
The value would be ridiculous today.
I had originals of almost every comic made by Marvel between 1977 and 1984 ish.
IIRC, some university had a large vintage porn collection so they could study the furniture, lamps, fabrics, etc. from bygone eras.

And that's why they become so valuable over time. People throw them out without ever considering their future value.
They're only valuable because everyone threw theirs away! Even then, the market for stuff that Boomers find valuable will never be what it was. If you held on to anything past 2008, whether comic books, baseball cards, or Fender guitars, you missed out. That train has left the station. The upcoming Millennial and Gen-Z folks will never place much value on any of this stuff and as Boomers start dropping like flies, estate sales are going to be full of old comic books. Few people are going to want them.
Not to give you a sad, but there was a cheap flat rate for shipping seabags.
I sent home sets of China for every female member of my family and a component stereo system. Except for the stereo speakers I found oversized seabags for all of it.

Dunno about that. The Marvel movies have had a significant upwards impact on the price of comics from the previous era. If you have an original #1 of a comic that Marvel makes into a movie, you’ve just been enriched.
It’s scaring me a bit too. The only porn stars I can name are Jenna Jamison and Traci Lords and whatserface who got screwed by Avenatti.
