WHITEHALL, OH (WCMH) -- A Whitehall teenager is due in court Tuesday morning on charges that he stole eggs from the nest of a Canada Goose.
Andre Teague, 18, was holding a rolled up shirt in his hands when police stopped him early in the morning of April 17. When he dropped the shirt, two large eggs fell out and hit the pavement.
Police had received a call earlier that morning of a man hitting a goose.
On police bodycam video, Teague initially says he got the eggs from the grocery store where he works. Police say he eventually confessed to taking the eggs from the nest and admits to taking a swing at the angry goose.
“It came charging at me,” Teague tells the officer in a police report. “I wanted to pet it or whatever and then it bite (sic) me. So i just ...wanted to take one of the eggs to see if it hatch over at my house.”
Police say a dead goose was found not far from the area of the initial call but they could not confirm that it was the goose Teague is suspected of striking.

The Migratory Birds Treaty makes it illegal for anyone in a country that signed it. Same reason you can’t shoot a woodpecker or a crow in the US.
Canada Geese are so called because of their habit of laying their eggs in the northern reaches of Canada where there are fewer predators. Since Americans have eliminated their predators in our neck of the woods, many have cancelled their trips North. They should be encouraged to return to their ancient ways.

Most woodpeckers aren’t migratory, while waterfowl almost always are, so I am surprised woodpeckers were included in the MSA.
You are legally allowed to shoot crows in the US. You don’t even have read them their Miranda rights, just catch them in the act of committing a crime

When they caught up to him, he had a duck under his jacket.

It doesn’t matter what team wins the Stanley Cup because it’s mostly Canadians who do the winning. Therefore it’s always a Canadian team that wins.

Supposedly, Canada’s are an endangered species. This is ridiculous since there are at least a billion of the damn things in Ohio alone. Around here I can show you several who are nesting in the street!
Two fewer geese in Ohio are no loss to anybody. Cruelty to animals? Plueeze.
If you’ve ever had a pond in your neighborhood where these critters nest, you already know the mess they make. To me, these are the equivalent of flying rats.
In the NE, geese are a menace. They are invading public parks in huge numbers, leaving poop everywhere, destroying grass, fouling water, etc...
Our town is debating a cull at this moment.
Why is taking eggs a crime?
