Montana Gov. Steve Bullock teased a 2020 presidential run on Saturday, promising to position himself in a crowded Democratic field as the only candidate who can win the support of rural America. “Coming soon, the only Democratic contender who won a Trump state will make a big announcement," reads the narration in a video posted to Bullock’s Twitter account. The 39-second video urges viewers to “be the first to know” about his plans by visiting stevebullock.com.

Tactically, it would be a good way for a Democrat candidate to sap Trump’s strong areas and provide a path to victory. Realistically, he’s got a better chance this cycle winning Motor Trend’s Car of the Year than the Democratic nomination for President.

He’d probably stand a much better chance in the Democrat primaries if he didn’t have to rely on Democrat donors to fund his campaign, Democrat media outlets for publicity, and Democrat primary voters for votes. Nearly all of them, with the exception of the few trying to figure out how to make Biden passable, see this as their chance to sneak a socialist into power.

I’ve toyed with the idea of registering Democrat this cycle and voting for the least known donkey in the primary field, but those turkeys keep making that strategy harder and harder to pull off.

Montana has a really weird history in elections.

Strong sense of independence in the east.

Miners and unions in the middle.

Tourists in the West.

Lately, horrible vote fraud, mostly from the “Sovereign Nations” also known as Indian Reservations. That’s how we got Obamacare.

[[to position himself in a crowded Democratic field as the only candidate who can win the support of rural America.]]

Yeah because democrats have been so so helpful to rural Americans in the past (and love to say things like Flyover country- clinging to God bible and guns- heebs- screw your prayers and thoughts etc etc etc)

No thanks Steve- We like winning! We like someone who knows how to revitalize the economy- not some democrat who likes to tear economies down-

Libertarian took a key 4% in 2012, which would’ve elected Rick Hill (who would’ve been reelected in 2016). Bullock barely got over 50% in 2016 (power of incumbency). The GOP should get it back next year (they last won in 2000), assuming an ugly internecine war between the candidates doesn’t aid the Demonrats.

I’ve met the guy - decent enough fellow. He talks a lot about bringing people together and being able to win in a Red state. When pressed, his actual views are way to the left of what anyone here would support, but not nearly crazy enough or delivered with sufficient vitriol to get traction in the Democratic primary race. The Dems could do worse, and there’s a 100% certainty that they will.
