In what may be his first major move to the left on policy as a 2020 presidential candidate, Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden has endorsed repealing the Hyde amendment, a measure that prohibits federal funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is endangered.
“It can’t stay,” Biden said of the Hyde amendment during an exchange with an ACLU activist earlier this month. The video of the exchange was posted by the ACLU on Twitter on May 8th but has drawn little attention since then (it was flagged by Washington Post reporter David Weigel on Sunday evening).
It’s not clear when or why Biden changed his mind on the issue.
“I will continue to abide by the same principle that has guided me throughout my 21 years in the Senate: those of us who are opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them,” Biden wrote to a constituent in 1994. “As you may know, I have consistently — on no fewer than 50 occasions — voted against federal funding of abortions.”
“I’ve stuck to my middle-of-the-road position on abortion for more than 30 years,” Biden wrote in his 2007 book Promises to Keep. “I still vote against partial birth abortion and federal funding.”
A few weeks before Biden launched his 2020 presidential campaign, his spokesman declined to tell the New York Times if he still opposed federal funding of elective abortions. Now we know.

The Hyde Amendment is deceiving imo.
Federal funding for abortion is not a matter of federal law or opinion.
More specifically, the states have never given the unconstitutionally big federal government the specific power to tax and spend for abortion purposes. Such funding is a scandalous way for corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification career lawmakers to exploit low-information voters to stay in power, such voters not understanding the fed’s constitutionally limited powers.

His father never gave in on this issue. But then again, he had a few bouts with death and saw the bigger picture. As I recall, his father had a heart-lung transplant.

Well, I’m a doctor, and I can tell you that I was more pro-choice for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy as a medical student and young doctor.
Mainly, because I was seeing the teenage pregnancies and cognizant of the poor outcomes for young single moms, and kids growing up with no father.
I always thought, what’s wrong with adoption? Why can’t a young mother carry the baby, and put it up for adoption, and receive money for school or training.
HOWEVER, AS ONE GETS OLDER, IT’S MORE COMMON TO BE PRO LIFE.
In other words, I think a lot people are pro choice at one time then they evolve to pro life.
A politician who does the opposite going to pro choice is coward @ss kisser for votes and should not be trusted IMO...
Biden is the quintessential ass hat politician who does nothing.
I predict he won’t get the nomination, but if he does he’ll do something crazy at the debates like challenge Trump to fight or maybe even make a physical move towards him.

As I recall, Casey never liked coffee until after his transplant. And then he couldn’t get enough of it.
There were other attributes of the donor that manifested in Casey after receiving his organs. I found this very interesting.
