People who drink up to 25 cups of coffee a day don't run a greater risk of a heart attack.
That's the remarkable finding from a study of over 8,000 people in the U.K., carried out by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Previous studies have linked drinking coffee with a hardening of the arteries that pump blood from your heart to other parts of the body. If arteries become stiff, it can increase stress on the heart and raise a person's chance of having a heart attack or stroke.
But the fresh research, presented Monday at the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) Conference, claimed that after looking at the heart scans of 8,412 people, it had "debunked" previous studies linking coffee to poor heart health.

But number 26 is a Killer.
“I have noticed that if I drink too much Starbucks French Roast my prostate enlarges.”
Hmm. How do you note the change?
Never mind.
Maxwell House???
Did you notice what they did to their big (Costco-sized) package?
The handle on the container is wider and shallower, making it more difficult to hold.
I’m guessing it’s to cause more accidents that waste the product causing more “earlier” sales so that they can fund such studies.
I took a managerial accounting course in late 1970s college. The prof said as a grad student, he did a Summer at GF in NYC, and GF had a whole floor of cost accountants working to find ways to shave 0.5¢ off a pound (back in the day) of Maxwell House.
Then the marketing guys would show up and announce a 5¢/lb increase in advertising.
He decided that cost accounting wasn’t going to be his thing.
So basically the Brits are saying that I should do everything that my doctor told me not to do? Is this their revenge for the War of 1812?
I vary my daily coffee intake, but have to stop by 7PM, lest if affect my sleep.
I drink well over three 8 oz. cups a day. As I sit here with my fifth cup in front of me reading this good news, I smile.
As for sleeping at night, I must always remember the sleep aid my father taught me. It may be hard to go to sleep at night unless you follow one rule: "You have to remember to close both eyes at the same time."
I must note, however, I drink no coffee after lunch.
You do know that the lighter roasts have more caffeine?
As much as I like the kick of caffeine, I'll choose the flavor of the more roasted beans.
Simple, lower back pain and pressure.
A standard measuring cup is 8 oz, coffee makers make 5-6 oz cups of coffee and my the mug on my desk now is about 12 oz.
Well, Jane, it just goes to show you, it's always something
if it ain't one thing, it's another.
What does all that caffeine do to your kidneys? I’m swearing off caffeine because I’ve been getting an annual kidney infection and the backache that goes with it is a killer.
I drink several in the morning (no cream or sugar) but they would have to strap me to the bed at night if I drank that much through the day.
I drink three large mugs a day, every day, for the past ? years. A long time.
I don’t think I can ever up my game to 25 cups.
I'm 75, BP 115/65....5'4" 116 lbs...Eat everything...no meds.
Damn good genes.
Why in God’s name would they use 25 cups as a base line. That’s a lot of fluids into the body.....maybe just keeping the walls soft?
Watch out for ibuprofen and naproxen on the kidneys. I’ve been using it for years (taking 6-10 a day), and found it was really hurting my kidneys. My eGFR was in the 30s. I stopped taking it, and now I’m up in the 80s. Still too low, but so much better.
Tylenol doesn’t damage the kidneys, but does the liver.
Embrace the pain!
As coffee is 98% water, you are basically drinking water when you are having coffee!
So feel free to add coffee to your daily water consumption. Especially if you can drink it black, which is the best way to consume coffee in my opinion, though it is an acquired taste for many.
I was a "sugar and cream" coffee drinker for decades and then a few years back, I decided to cut out those empty calories and I forced myself to drink my coffee black. It took about 2-3 months to get used to it but now I like the taste of coffee so much that I'll never go back to sugar and cream. I even find myself ordering dark roasts and exotic blends as I can actually appreciate the flavors now.
I keep hearing that coffee (caffeine) is a diuretic but there is no science backing that up whatsoever. So feel free to add coffee to your water consumption totals.
