SALT LAKE CITY — Seconds after the Utah Inland Port Authority's meeting began Wednesday, chaos erupted.

Protesters with the group Civil Riot swarmed the port board meeting — many wearing surgical face masks marked with an "X" — ran to the front of the committee room at the Utah State Capitol, some locking arms as nearly a dozen Utah Highway Patrol troopers jumped into action to escort them out for violating rules of decorum.

"We are here to stop the port," one female protester shouted. "Your meeting failed because it will destroy our communities. This is not OK."

Nearly a dozen troopers, who were standing at the ready even before the meeting started, began forcibly removing those who resisted. Derek Miller, the port authority's board chairman, told board members to exit the room through a back door.

"Look, we're not going anywhere, OK?" a lead protester, Ethan Petersen, shouted from the back of the room, where he was handcuffed to a door handle. "We're not going anywhere. This meeting's done."

Petersen continued shouting as several troopers began forcing him out of the room.

"This project is environmentally destructive," Petersen yelled. "It will exacerbate climate change. This is destruction of the planet. we're not going to allow it anymore. You don't represent us."

Troopers told Petersen to "stop" as they wrestled him in the hallway, where he laid down on his back. Troopers eventually arrested him, placing him in handcuffs before carrying him to an elevator.

An old hippie, a couple of pajamabois, and some bulldykes. Lovely.

Leftist agitators are trained to feign pain and distress when they're being arrested. They're better actors than European soccer players.

Civil Riot? Like Days of Rage sponsored by the SDS/Weathermen?

I hope this development doesn’t hurt the fishing at Salt Lake.

Next meeting, the highway patrol should bring bars of soap, Febreze, and job applications. That’ll keep away the dirty, smelly, unemployed protestors.

But, south of Salt Lake City is a whole lot of national forest, hunting, and fishing all the way to Arizona. If they screw up one of my favorite vacation spots, then I WILL be mad.

No, not a canal to connect the Great Salt Lke to San Diego or the Salton Sea.

The Utah Inland Port area is one of the few remaining undeveloped areas of Salt Lake County. It sits at the intersection of two interstate freeways, major national railways, and an international airport which puts the area in high demand for expanding warehouse, distribution, and manufacturing.

In addition, Utah’s population will nearly double in the coming decades, creating the need for more jobs and for greater ability to move people and goods.

How many container ships per month are they expecting once they open the port?

When did Utah connect with an ocean? I suppose that news event got buried somehow.

A night stick to the face will correct that behaviour in an instant.

Thanks for the perspective. I know there is an area at Willard Bay on the north end of the Great Salt Lake which is a protected area for salt marsh dwelling creatures, but isn't this inland port near the SOUTH end near the major transportation infrastructure you describe?

IOW, mostly high desert and salt flats?

Sadly, Salt Lake City, despite being the home of the Mormon Church, has become just another RAT-run major city. Fortunately, most of the rest of Utah is still a Mormon majority place, and as a consequence is still a decent place to live. My niece and her family moved from Las Vegas to Cedar City, UT where they bought 21 acres and built a 7,000 sf home about seven years ago. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen! They moved there principally so that their two children could grow up in a decent environment and go to schools that actually educate the kids that attend them. They are not Mormons, but they say that the Mormons make the place the decent spot that it is.

About 100 million years ago.

The article is not really specific about what all the fuss is about, other than environmental issues, however, I am very familiar with what unelected boards are capable of doing
when Legislatures give away their power and responsibilties to unelected bureaucrats.

The protestors could improve their image quite a bit by dressing for the occasion and having adults rather than children as the foundation of the protest. Acting like Democrats
doesn’t play well in Republican circles.

Utah unfortunately has become CA over the years, and having your entire population in a 20 mile corridor from St. George to Brigham City, sure crams a whole bunch of
wild and crazy folks into a very small area.
