And...I can back up low carb eating, etc with books and info by medical docs too.

I started the video holding the phone upright, then turned it sideways. I didn’t know it would come out that way (arg).

I guess it depends on one’s opinion of the honesty of FReepers here, many of whom are under doctor’s care, on medical prescriptions, and at least claim to drastically reduced or eliminated their meds (i.e., it wasn’t their imaginations telling them their diets were working, it was their blood tests). We have different opinions of them, so I guess we’ll have disagree here.

Oh yea, one more thing, the American Diabetes Association is finally telling Americans the OBVIOUS too. I guess they were getting tired of being laughed at by all the people with success stories.

I never said I didn’t trust their honesty . I said I don’t trust their medical advice or their dietary recommendations. And honestly, go ahead and reread your own statement and what does that tell you? Why all these people on meds and under a doctor’s care to begin with? These are people who’s lifestyle choices were obviously questionable to begin with. I’m not going to go to them for advice.

I suspect that most of them are under medical care because they followed the government’s high carb dietary recommendations (i.e., food pyramid), as their ‘doctors’ likely recommended they do.

Your first point is a fine distinction, most people here with success stories are not TELLING others what to do, but rather what they’ve had happen in their lives. They’ve had success, which even you appear to believe, yet NOT ONE PERSON HERE, not even yourself (based on your earlier posting), can match what they saw using a any type of high-carb diet, relatives to knocking down their blood sugar and meds.

We all get to choose who we trust, and I trust FReepers here MUCH MORE than the medical community on issues where literally NO ONE understands all the processes going on.

Bill Clinton went plant based after his bypass surgery, taking the advice of Forks over Knives’ Caldwell Esselstyn:

My, doesn’t he look healthy now?

6.5 Months, lost 45lbs and off ALL Meds...
BP Normal, Glucose Normal and I’m spending $ on New Clothes not Meds

Regime is so dirt simple, 1 Meal a day (if I am hungry) try to stay under 30 carbs per day and I don’t eat anything that could spike my Insulin (Sugar, Starch, MSG, Grains, Root Veg etc)
I don’t count calories as a rule but they are about 2,000 per day if I was to guess, very simple meals made with Bacon, Ground Beef, Liver, Eggs, Hard Cheese, Cabbage, Lettuce, Celery and Brussels Sprouts. The only hard part is buying the smaller Steaks <8oz because it is easy to get too much protein.

Let’s see, looking at your profile and history:

1) You’ve been on this site for 16 years.
2) You’re from Texas
3) You last posted about low carb 3 months ago, and that was 3 replies on a single thread on the subject.
4) Other than today’s post, and the 3 replies above, you haven’t posted on low-carb for at least 3 years (that’s as far as I went back).

Perhaps you can tell me why I should NOT believe your posting? You’re history certainly doesn’t show you to be a shill for Big Carb.

By the way, CONGRATULATIONS on turning your life around - I love those stories (and yes, I believe them here, every damn one)!

Wow 16 years on FR and only got in trouble once (better than I did in my 28 years in the Military!)

Yeah I didn’t find Low Carb until Dec 2018 and even then I messed it up a couple of months so in that respect I’m an underachiever (I have only lost 40 + or- lbs)

Lost about 10” off my Beer Gut, dropped my BP from 198/ish over 98 /ish (at the Dentist Office it would be 220 on the High side and she wouldn’t even work on me until I did Deep Breathing to get it down to a “Safe” level and I was on Meds then) now I walk around at 130/79 ish. Christmas 2018 I was wearing (tight) 42” waist jeans now I’m shopping for 36”.
I am OFF “ALL” Meds (the BP stuff was the worst) and Dr says “Keep doing what you are doing”

I do want to go get an A1C and a CAC Test (I can do Glucose/Ketones tests after that and then infer Insulin myself... cheaper at home and I’d rather have the Data than a Snapshot)

I do not care a single whit about Cholesterol (but my Dr always wants that test)

If I was to ever give anyone any advice it would be to (in order) go to the Pantry and Throw away All Veg Oil, All Sugar/Candy and Syrups (including Honey) Noodles/Pasta, Rice, Flour, Corn Starch, Potatoes, Grains/Cereals and build simple meals with what is left and that would be a great start.

Get to know your Butcher, I get so many GREAT deals on Fatty Steaks and Chicken Thighs and as he has now went Keto himself, when he sees me he knows what I am looking for and then the High Fat meats are the most discounted and worst displayed.

Thank you for your kind words

TT

My husband started the Keto diet about 6 months back. He dropped a ton of weight, his bloodwork numbers are excellent, he sleeps so much better, and even his allergies have gotten better.

I have tried several times to try it with him but I have IBS-C and I’m on a specialized diet for that. I can do some of the same things, but when I try to do everything he does, the animal fats and red meats, my IBS flares so bad. I cannot do fiber in any form except ground flaxseed. So I am doing a lower carb diet and sticking with things like olive oil and chicken.

You’re welcome and LOVE THE STORY.

This kind of reminds me of the Barr hearing where he said that Trump was being spied on. The Democrats didn’t make the claim, but it was implied. The claim being that Barr is LYING HIS ASS OFF, under penalty of PERJURY, just to protect Trump, someone he probably isn’t even that crazy about (given his swamp background). According to the Democrats, we’re supposed to believe that Barr, aged 69, with 3 daughters and probably a bunch of grandkids, was willing to GO TO JAIL for the rest of his life to protect Trump. Like hell.

So it is here...one story after another and, no, you weren’t called liars, directly, it’s just that your stories were TOTALLY DISCOUNTED by a person here, who’s convinced that you guys have done everything wrong...regardless of results.

*** “ it’s just that your stories were TOTALLY DISCOUNTED by a person here, who’s convinced that you guys have done everything wrong...regardless of results” ***

Everybody has done the YMMV excuse... BUT once you are “High Mileage” (Older)and are Insulin Resistant (whether you gain weight or not) Type 2 Diabetes is No Joke, Kidney Dialysis is No Joke and the YMMV excuse just goes out the window. There are a bunch of Skinny people that have to deal with each or both, I had a beer gut that was obvious sign of being Insulin Resistant (my EX used to ask me if I had decided to be an Underbelly or Overbelly guy) now that is just water under the bridge.
I don’t manage my diet as much as I try to manage Insulin, I’m not going to be that guy that loses a foot this year another one next year and then is on Dialysis for the last 3 months of his life (I have had 2 acquaintances/friends that exactly did that)
I have a ways to go, I want to lose another 40lbs and be embarrassed about a belly skin flap but I am committed to this Lifestyle (food only interests me when I’m hungry) I can make tasty stuff that is satiating and I don’t say No to a Rib-eye.
Life is Good!

Sweet. But he doesn’t even say YMMV, he’s says that we’re simply wrong...unreal.
