FULL TITLE: Singer's 'indecent liberties' with 14-year-old girl -- pardoned by Jimmy Carter -- get him nixed from folk music festival

An 81-year-old member of the 1960s folk group Peter, Paul and Mary has been disinvited from a music festival to be held in upstate New York this fall over his 1970 jail sentence for taking “indecent liberties” with a 14-year-old girl, the festival board announced Tuesday.

Peter Yarrow -- whose offense was later pardoned by former President Jimmy Carter -- was removed from the lineup at the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival. The board announced its decision Tuesday, citing negative reactions on social media to Yarrow's inclusion. The singer was to perform Sept. 8.

"When booking this artist we were not aware of news stories about an incident involving Yarrow in 1970," Colorscape's board president Melissa DeCordova told the Press & Sun-Bulletin, a newspaper based in Binghamton, N.Y.

Good thing Jimmy Page and Ted Nugent don't play folk music.

More intolerance from the “tolerant” left. 1970 ... and pardoned by the president. But they won’t let him perform in 2019. Pathetic.

Poor sod. If it had only been a 14-year-old boy, not only would he have been forgiven - he probably would have received a public apology as well.

(Yes folks, this is how f-ed up the world has become.)

Rock n’ roll never forgets.

We need a real counter to social media. They’re mobilizing and choking off communications with only their approved lenders which is why we’re seeing this insane activity.

I actually never knew that history. The media kept that pretty much under the radar.

Well, I now know what “Puff the Magic Dragon” was all about. Is every Lefty a pervert?

McKenzie Phillips had incest with father John Phillips, of the Mamas and Papas. So there’s that too, in the Folk Rock music business.

Hmmm, not excusing his actions, but Madona just intentionally exposed the breast of a 14 year old fan who was onstage with her- but she gets a pass- Why is this?

During that song's chart run, I actually thought it was about a magic dragon named Puff. The '60's counterculture had yet to reach into my neighborhood.

A few months later, the group scored with "Blowin' in the Wind," which I thought was a whimsical series of riddles. I was unaware that it was likely inspired by Mao Tse-tung's 1957 statement, "the east wind is prevailing over the west wind," meaning that the East Bloc would eventually triumph over the West.

"Blowin' in the Wind" was written by Bob Dylan during his protest song period. It was not inspired by Mao in the slightest. When Dylan finally performed in China in 1979, he was not allowed to perform any of his protest songs.

That wasn’t the worst of that guy, believe it or not. There’s a whole bunch of stuff from that era that isn’t widely known. Very creepy people. Manson was just the tip of the iceberg.

Puff the Magic Dragon is about a child outgrowing his simplistic worldview. Nothing more.

People can read all kinds of nonsense into the most innocuous words, but that says more about the interpreter than the author.

Still, Peter Yarrow is a lefty dickhead.

I agree the guy was a creep an should have been jailed back then.....

but if we're going to go back decades, none of us for the most part are innocents......there is always that little something......

the leftists and SJW'S are going to play this stupid game until everyone is convicted of something....

Peter, Paul and Mary have pushed back on this silly notion that the song was about pot. They’ve denied it for decades. Of course, the great Mary Travers has been gone a long time now.

“Is every Lefty a pervert?”

I think perverts find the left a more congenial environment.
