Back Nine
You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is - the ' back nine' of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast ? Where did the years go and where did my youth go ? I remember vividly seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that ' I was only on the first hole' and the ' back nine' was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is . . . my friends are retired and getting grey. They move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant . . . but like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day ! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore . . . it's mandatory ! Cause if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit !
And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did ! But, at least I know, that though Im on the ' back nine', and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know for sure, that when it's over on this earth . . . it's over. A new adventure will begin !
Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done . . . things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not on the ' back nine' yet . . . let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly ! Don't put things off too long ! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether youre on the ' back nine' or not ! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life . . . so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember, and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past !
"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
LIVE IT WELL ! ENJOY TODAY ! DO SOMETHING FUN ! BE HAPPY ! HAVE A GREAT DAY

LIVE HAPPY IN 2019
LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
~Your kids are becoming you . . . but your grandchildren are perfect
~Going out is good . . . Coming home is better ! ~You forget names . . . But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you !
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore ! ~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.. ~You tend to use more 4 letter words . . . "what ?" . . . "when ?". . . ??? ~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless" ! ~What used to be freckles are now liver spots. ~Everybody whispers. ~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet . . . 2 of which you will never wear.
~~~But Old is good in some things ~~~ Old Songs, Old Movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND ! " Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT
It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS!
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table, Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, And notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back On the table and take out the garbage first...
But then I think, Since I'm going to be near the mailbox When I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, And see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, So I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking .
I'm going to look for my checks, But first I need to push the Pepsi aside So that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Pepsi is getting warm, And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, A vase of flowers on the counter Catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Pepsi on the counter and Discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, But first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter , Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, But first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table, Get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to Remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: The car isn't washed, The bills aren't paid, There is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter, The flowers don't have enough water, There is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, And I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, And I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, And I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....
FOXY LADY:
Sexy, fashion-conscious voluptuous blue-haired beauty,
WINNING SMILE:
Active grandmother with original teeth seeking a dedicated flosser
To share rare steaks, corn on the cob and caramel candy.
BEATLES OR STONES?
I still like to rock, still like to cruise in my Camaro on
Saturday nights and still like to play the guitar.
If you were a groovy chick, or are now a groovy hen,
let’s get together and listen to my eight-track tapes.
The search for energy becomes profound. The apple a day becomes real; bananas and hydration to lessen backaches, gotta have a salad bar once a week and prepping for a nap means the difference between enjoyable and tortuous.
Good friends are a lifeline whereas those who drain my energy (with manipulations and falsehoods) go by the wayside. I seek friends who decide to enjoy life and make the most of it.
The TV drains my energy with it’s never ending demands. I find that Youtube is very enjoyable and helpful instead.
Taking thinks out is good! And FreeRepublic is Good!
The Best is Yet to Come.
It would be interesting to know the % of older Freepers and other age groups. Also M/F.
In 25+ years, I expect FR seniors have increased and sadly, many are no longer able to ‘chat’ with us.
LOL!
Perfect!
Seriously though, what's getting very disturbing is seeing lifelong friends and acquaintances methodically dying off.
“Active grandmother with original teeth”
I have an original tooth!
I’m as old as I’ve ever been. I thought getting old would take longer.
I feel more now like I did before.
M, 62. A mere tyke, it would seem.
I can tell who the older freepers are...they are the ones who understand what in the living hell I am talking about!
Inside every old person, there's a young person wondering what the hell happened ...
“I’ll have the soup.”
I’ll have the mashed potatoes and hold the corn on the cob!
I may be on the back nine, but I’m playing 36. As I glance around I see millennials who hit the ball out of bounds on hole #1 and then quit. I feel I’m much better off.
