Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A trio of cheesemakers teamed up in Quebec to make a world record-breaking poutine that weighed nearly 6,700 pounds.

The cheesemakers, Fromage Warwick, Fromagerie Victoria and Fromagerie du Presbytere, combined fries, gravy and cheese curds in Warwick to create a total 6,688 pounds of poutine.

Sebastien Lemay, the co-owner of Fromage Warwick, said it took about 26 to 28 hours to prepare all of the cheese curds for the poutine, while the fries were cooked up just prior to the event with the use of 40 deep-frying machines.

The previous poutine world record was 4,409 pounds, cooked up in Trois-Rivieres in 2015.

I’ve never had Poutine but would definitely give it a try. Sounds delicious.

I went to the original shop that started it all. I was very unimpressed. It was prepared as advertised, it was just not anything that was worth ruining fries for preparing.

It’s best if the fries are crisp, fried in new oil.

The ‘gravy’ should be homemade and not from a mix.................

You can get poutine in Manchester, NH, which has a large Franco-American population descended from transplanted Québécois.

The key is the gravy.

I’m in Canada a lot, and many small shops there just use the cheap powdered, just-add-water stuff. Tastes fake.

as an EX Canadian, thats how it’s eaten. I find it funny I still put LOTS of mayo and mix up with ketchup on my fries and see the faces of people how I eat it at fast foods...

Which part of canada? I’m from Vancouver originally and only a very FEW outlets I know of use the real ingredients and recipe. Even downtown Montreal, most of the shops there use the fake stuff. You have to be outside of the city limits like Quebec City to really taste this stuff..

I travel a lot in Southern Ontario/Toronto but also Montreal area.

Most of the poutine in Southern Ontario is the “fake stuff,” on the order of how hockey rinks or amusement parks in the USA do nachos

A friend took me to a gastropub in Montreal where the chef made his gravy from roast beef and bone-stock reduction, and of course the curds were from some local organic farm, etc... I remember it being near McGill. Will search the name...

You mean McGill University? I have relatives who went to school there and the shops there use the real stuff and recipe. The students are anal about their poutine LOL

Great stuff but intensely fattening - In Quebec there are sorts of variants available, the most popular is Poutine with sausages..

I always tell myself to eat just a bit but end up eating every bit and watching to see if the kids leave any in their bowls.
