So before all those criminals in San Jose, California go out for a night of crime, they are now required to get gun insurance (end sarcasm here)...All this does is penalize the legal lawful gun owner and make insurance companies a boat load of money.

One cannot impose pre-conditions on peaceful, lawful exercise of a Constitutional right.

While you’re at it, how about “Mandatory Mayor Insurance”. It can cover all of the deficits incurred while a mayor is in office. I’m sure the premiums would be low.

Let's try this with a slight twist

(CNN)In the wake of mass shootings around the country, the mayor of one California city wants to require all computer owners to carry liability insurance for their keyboard -- or pay a fee to help shoulder the public costs of hate speech.

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo proposed the local ordinance on Monday, and if passed by the city council, it could become the nation's first such requirement. Similar state legislation is also being considered in Massachusetts and New York.

The proposal comes just two weeks after hate speech left three people dead and injured more than 12 in Gilroy, California -- about thirty miles away from San Jose.

Offering just "thoughts and prayers" was not enough for the San Jose mayor after two families in his city lost children in the Gilroy speech incident.

"While this is far from a complete solution, it is something we can do to reduce the harms of hate speech, without waiting for Congress to take action," Mayor Liccardo said in a press release.

According to Liccardo's proposal, the insurance would cover "accidental discharge of words, and for the intentional acts of third parties who steal, borrow, or otherwise acquire the keyboard." It would not cover "liability of the policyholder for his or her own intentional conduct."

The requirement will not apply to sworn employees of the MSM.

do men who frequent bathhouses for random sex need liability insurance?

Hell, in California they did away with HIV infected persons needing to share that news with potential sex partners. So much for informed consent.

At least some Democrats are screeching against our Second Amendment to distract from the real cause of most of the mass murders. Democrats like drug addiction and murder. Some Republicans are trying to do something about the real cause of the violence problem and many other problems.

Fine, but policy holders should by extension be allowed to carry their weapons on their persons at all times in order to mitigate the chances of theft or misuse.

require all gun owners
= = =

How do they identify these gun owners?

and “Another program the mayor proposed involves offering cash rewards to anyone who reports someone possessing any guns or weapons obtained unlawfully.”

and how would ‘anyone’ know that the ‘someone’ had them illegally?

See something (or imagine something) and say (rat out) something.

Excellent point.

Will the well-armed youth gangs in our cities by this required insurance? Will any criminals make sure that they have paid up their insurance policy before they commit gun crime?

Maybe those who don’t own guns should have to buy liability insurance for being passive, helpless victims who have no chance to defend themselves from the consequences of democRat idiocy.

this is exactly the kind of argument that should be taken to the supreme court- these new gun laws do NOT stop crime- it, just like you stated, penalizes law abiding citizens simply for exercising their inalienable right to own a gun
