I didn’t invent the lame policies of high schools, and I doubt the parents of the victim need anyone to tell them that the situation in the school where they chose to send their child was awful.

Hard to say. But I don't think the Detective who is quoted in the article would advise his son or daughter to try to intervene in a situation where six or seven people are attacking and stabbing a victim.

In some communities in Long Island MS-13 is very active. I doubt the Detective himself would jump into a fight against six or seven gang members stabbing someone without some kind of weapon.

I’m to go against the grain. What were the bystanders supposed to do- jump in another’s fight? Other than call 911, I wouldn’t jump in. 1) I don’t want to get permanently hurt/killed over a drug deal gone bad. 2) I will lose unless I use a pistol; which means at best a very expensive legal bill. In most states, you only have the same legal defense that the “victim” has. For instance, if the loser started the fight, you really can use disproportant retaliation as a defense; which is usually very shaky ground.

Doubt has been cast on the whole Kitty Genovese story.

In the racial climate of today, I couldn’t imagine stepping in to stop something like this unless I am the same race and gender as those fighting - I’m not kidding. Cops seem to be taking the same approach, and with good reason. I won’t be dragged into “hate crime” BS because of a well-intentioned act, and while I wouldn’t want to film it, that is evidence to help collar the perps. Who knows what is involved in these incidents?

The Kitty Genovese story was likely an early run of fake news. Her younger brother had his legs blown off in Viet Nam. From his wheelchair, he made a recent investigative documentary, and found a neighbor who had actually run down to the street and cradled Kitty in the hallway where she died...the bloody handprints in the hallway were actually the witness's, not Kitty's. Also, several neighbors had corroborating accounts in which they said they called police and the dispatcher said they had been called and were already aware of the incident.

Furthermore, some of the journalists were found and they basically admitted to doing little if any legwork, and omitting some of the witness accounts they received in order to senstionalize the apathy angle of the story...because it would sell more papers.
