He may be a danger to himself, the military academy said in a statement.
The academy will be operating normally with "an increased force protection status," the statement said, including more police presence at sporting events and across the academy.
The cadet, a member of the class of 2021, was last seen on Friday around 5:30 p.m. on West Point grounds. When he didn't show up for a military skills competition, his teammates began looking for him immediately, the academy said.
After an initial search was unsuccessful, military police began their search around 1 a.m. Saturday. Officials notified the New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff's Department, and also reached out to the Keller Army Community Hospital and other local hospitals to make sure the missing cadet hadn't received medical treatment, the academy said.
State police offered helicopter, K-9 and drone support for the search. The Coast Guard was also notified and searched the shoreline, the academy's statement said.

Diversity has weakened West Point, all the service academies and the military. The Joint Chiefs of Staff is just a group of pole climbing politically correct bureaucrats posing as generals. They are not warriors. The Pentagon is just another bloated Federal bureaucracy soaking up dollars in the swamp.

The stress of university, and the age it occurs always claims a few kids to schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (assuming that’s what has happened).
A very intelligent boy known to my daughter went off at university, and randomly attacked two cops. He got shot, survived, was put on probation (and meds), and then broke bail and house arrest and disappeared, saying he was going to Alaska. Not sure if he was ever found.
I hope they find this cadet and can help him before he hurts someone or himself.
Interesting the glaring omission - they don’t mention even the possibility the cadet may pose a danger to others. Just himself. Someone “missing”, armed with a rifle. Hm.
Having grown up there I can tell you the woods surrounding the academy are vast and thick.
