The most overrated team in the country is Clemson. Each year they have a cakewalk to the CFP by playing ACC cupcakes. Their win over Alabama was a fluke, with Alabama self-destructing with turnovers. If Clemson was in the SEC there is no way in hell they are getting a bye to the CFP, like they do now.
The Committee exists to promote college football. This ranking does exactly that. Ohio State will be #1 this week, and the winner of the LSU vs. Alabama game will be #1 next week. A few weeks later, Penn State vs. Ohio State will be a second game between teams ranked #2 vs. #3. That is great for College football.
I’ve been complaining about the geographical bias for 50 years, all the way back to the old Rose/Orange/Sugar/Cotton Bowl days. The southern and west coast teams ought to have to play their fair share of games in Michigan Stadium, or at Penn State or Notre Dame, on January 1 with an arctic wind driving the snow into their faces. Aka REAL football weather .

I agree that an eight team playoff is the best compromise... Any more would add too much time to the season. The #9 ranked team can’t really claim that it was cheated out of competing for being the best, but the #5 team can. There was one year that both TCU and Baylor were undefeated but left out of the playoffs. Sucks for them. Also, an 8 team format would leave room for a UCF or Boise State if they really earn it with 2 solid seasons in a row (in order to get a high ranking at the beginning of the 2nd season).
Roger that !
I like the idea of 8 game playoffs.
Would like to see the Oregon Ducks get a whack at it.
Yeah. Let’s make it 64 teams like basketball and we can skip the regular season. But everybody gets a trophy. Washington just finished second and won the WS.
The SEC only gets two because they are undefeated right now. And they play each other. You really want to leave Bama and LSU out? I would rather have two SEC teams, than have the Penn State sex offenders in the thing. The SEC has very strong teams. Auburn freaking beat Oregon. What and who do you want?
You did see that K-State is rated 16th? That is hardly an embarrassing loss for OU.
um... they are only 16th because they beat OU ... lol
Let me know who wins LSU Bama Saturday. Game of the year
OSU always folds
I expect the performance of the two quarterbacks (Tua & Joe) in the Alabama, LSU game this Saturday to determine the Heisman Trophy winner.
Recommending an 8 team playoff is not anything like a 64 team playoff. With an 8 team playoff, the winner will have played 3 post season games. The others will have played 2 or 1. Hardly a gigantic leap. As it stands now, with only 4, very good no-loss or 1 loss teams get left out.
Also, in any given year it is credible to believe the 6th, 7th or 8th team could go all the way. It is not credible to think a 12th place or 16th place team could.
So, I believe an 8 team college football playoff is the “sweet spot” for that sport and is not comparbable to NCAA basketball.
Not sure what you are saying. Fla. is 10th. Georgia is 6th.
“wheres Baylor?”
Baylor is unbeaten but they are not that strong a team, they should have lost in overtime against Texas Tech, during overtime Baylor centered the ball and the QB was not expecting it, the refs ruled no play! Even the Big 12 said the call was wrong and Tech should have won! They still have to play Oklahoma and Texas, even though Texas is not much this year either but they did give LSU and Oklahoma good games! I like Baylor but they don’t deserve the top 10! If they should beat Texas and Oklahoma, then yeah they should be in the top 10 but not the top 4!
